Memorial Set Up for Major Greg Young`s Family

A college fund has been set up for his children.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The family of Major Gregory Young is beginning preparations for his memorial and funeral. Greg Young was an Oregon Air National Guard pilot who died tragically over the weekend, when his F-15 jet fighter crashed off the Oregon coast near Cannon Beach.

If anyone is interested in donating funds in memory of Major Young, they can direct that support to The Air Warrior Courage Foundation.

F-15 Pilot from Oregon Guard Identified

The pilot in the F-15 aviation mishap has been identified as Maj. Gregory D. Young of St Helens, Oregon.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The pilot who died over the weekend when his F-15 jet fighter crashed during training exercises has been identified as 34-year old Greg Young.

Search and rescue crews have been conducting an intense search of the area near Cannon Beach.

Oregon Guard F-15 Pilot`s Body Recovered After Crash

The pilot was flying a single seat F-15.

(CANNON BEACH, Ore.) - The U.S. Coast Guard has recovered the remains of the pilot from the F-15 jet fighter that crashed in the ocean approximately 35 nautical miles west of Cannon Beach.

Next of kin notifications are being made. The accident is currently under investigation by an interim Air Force Safety Board.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Officials with the Oregon National Guard say an F-15 jet fighter from the 142nd Fighter Wing Oregon Air National Guard went down off the Oregon coast approximately 35 nautical miles west of Cannon Beach at around 1:35 PM today.

The F-15 jet fighter was from the Portland Air Base on a training mission. The aircraft was carrying 1 pilot.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Hundreds of Salem-area residents cheered Thursday as the city’s first commercial passenger flight touched down at McNary Field in over a decade.

Salem Mayor Janet Taylor said Delta’s arrival in Salem will put the city on the map as an alternative destination to cities such as Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco.

The search to find a carrier for Salem began six years ago.

U.S Airline Delays Soar Over Last Year

The carriers filing on-time performance data reported that 7.72 percent of their April flights were delayed by aviation system delays.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - The nation’s largest airlines recorded a rate of on-time flights this past April that was higher than in March but down from the rate posted in April 2006, according to the Air Travel Consumer Report released Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

According to information filed with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, a part of DOT’s Research and Innovative Technology Administration, the 20 carriers reporting on-time performance recorded an overall on-time arrival rate of 75.7 percent in April, down from April 2006’s 78.4 but an improvement over March 2007’s 73.3 percent.

Delta Begins Service to Oregon`s Capitol City this Week

Delta has assigned a CRJ-200 to the Salem-Salt Lake City route which can accommodate up to 50 passengers.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon’s capitol city will once again have daily commercial air service beginning this week.

Salem business and community leaders let out a big cheer of “SLE to SLC” after years of hard work paid-off Feb. 26th, when Atlanta based Delta Airlines announced it would begin serving Salem’s McNary Field with two round-trip non-stop flights a day, 365 days a year to Salt Lake City, the airlines west coast hub, beginning June 7th.

The flights, to be operated by SkyWest Airlines, are scheduled to leave Salem at 6:30 AM arriving Salt Lake City at 9:15 AM and 1:15 PM arriving in Salt Lake City at 4:00 PM.

(KABUL, Afghanistan) - Five Americans and two other soldiers were killed when a NATO Chinook helicopter was shot down in southern Afghanistan Wednesday.

The Taliban claimed credit for shooting it down. Ambushed troops eventually called for an air strike to eliminate the threat, NATO said.
