Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom Kicks off the 2016 Literacy Project

Because everyone EATS.... agriculture is important to 100% of us.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Myers Elementary Fifth graders in Salem physically tried on different career possibilities at the annual Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom Literacy Project 2016 Kick-off at Myers Elementary School this week.

The 2016 featured book Before We Eat: From Farm to Table, and the related lesson feature a myriad of careers available in the Oregon farming, forestry, fishing, and fiber industries.

International Parental Kidnapping Case Leads to South Pacific Island

The father pled guilty in March 2015 and was sentenced last week.

It was a traumatic experience. By the time Billy and his father reached Niue after 60 days aboard the Draco, the 9-year-old had lost 30 pounds.

FBI Seeking Information to Identify Victims in International Sextortion Case

Online predator Lucas Michael Chansler was sentenced to 105 years in federal prison for engaging in an extortion scheme to produce child pornography.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Chansler child porn This article is part of a national effort to educate the public, particularly parents, about the issue of "sextortion" as well as to identify other potential victims of Lucas Michael Chansler.

As of now, the FBI has not identified any of Chansler's victims as having come from Oregon, but approximately 240 victims remain unidentified.

Child Abuser Michael Abo Sentenced 7.5 Years in Oregon Prison

This case has saddened much of Yamhill County.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Michael Abo Michael Abo pleaded Guilty on Wednesday. He is guilty of beating a 4-year old boy nearly to death on New Year’s Eve 2013. The abuse caused permanent, life-altering damage to his girlfriend’s young son, which he admits to.

This week, he was sentenced 7.5 years for his crime. Some say, not nearly long enough.

In 2003, we established a dance team and historical art movement for the community of Gaza, and started performing and spreading the art of dance around the Strip.

After the 2009 war, we found our rented dance studio bombed and demolished. But we did not to give up on our dancing.

Joshua Cavett is Guilty of Murder in the First Degree

The nightmare of a man who murdered a mother in front of her children gets 28 years in Prison.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Josh Cavett guilty “408 days. The family has suffered 408 days, waiting for the end of this torment. To finally lay their daughter, friend and sister to rest,” Christine Mascal, Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney, said as the hearing began.

Josh Cavett killed his wife, Jessie Doyle Cavett, in cold blood. Now, over a year after he confessed and was arrested, an agreement has been made, and he will begin his sentence.

“Justice is not served,” said the victim’s mother, Judy Doyle. “No number of years is enough."

A New Study by Shared Hope International Shows Oregon’s Efforts May be Paying Off

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Oregon report card Portland is believed to have the highest rate of strip clubs per capita and has been dubbed “Pornland,” but a new study by Shared Hope International shows Oregon’s effort to crack down on trafficking may be paying off.

According to the Protected Innocence Challenge, a report on the sufficiency of state laws relating to domestic minor sex trafficking in the U.S., Oregon raised its grade from a “D” to a “B” in 2013 with continuing efforts to strengthen state laws. Watch the release of the state grades.

Murdered Mother-of-Two Honored at Fundraiser

The murder of Jessie Doyle is an example of Domestic Violence at it's very worst.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Jessie Doyle Cavett One year ago this week, a young mother was murdered in front of her two little girls. The perpetrator was the woman’s estranged husband, who had no care whatsoever that a Restraining Order said he should stay away from her. Joshua Cavett walked up the stairs to the second floor apartment where he yelled and banged on a door until, finally, the door was opened.

Before 27-year old Jessie Doyle could make a move, there was a gun at her head and suddenly it was over. He shot her once, point blank.

4-Year Old Lincoln City Girl Dies After Being Diagnosed with E. Coli

The girl's friend is still fighting for his life. Health officials are trying to discover the cause of the infection.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Serena Profitt Little Serena Profitt died Monday night at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland from an infection caused by a strain of E. coli. Serena was four years old.

Her five-year-old friend, Brad Sutton, from Washington is undergoing treatment Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma, Wash. where he was listed in critical condition early Tuesday evening.
