16th Annual World Beat Festival to Celebrate Japanese Culture

Takafuji Dance Company to Headline World Beat 2013.
(SALEM) -
The Salem Multicultural Institute today announced the focus of the 2013 World Beat Festival is Washoi Japan! Celebrate Japan! The festival, which showcases cultural traditions from throughout the world, takes place this June 29 and 30 at Riverfront Park in Salem.
The Takafuji Dance Company will travel from Kanazawa and Tokyo to headline the festival with traditional geisha and lion dance performances.

On Monday, Mar. 18 from 8:00 a.m. until Noon, YWCA Salem will host the “dental van” developed by Medical Teams International at the YWCA office, 1255 Broadway St NE (corner of Broadway and Market Streets).
Dental van professionals give uninsured, low-income adults much needed dental services.

The Salem Concert Band with guest soloists Hanz Araki and Kathryn Claire will perform a Celtic Celebration on St Patrick’s Day, March 17, 3 pm, at the Historic Elsinore Theatre.
Portland-based performers Hanz Araki and Kathryn Claire, who have been working together since 2008 and have released four CDs on their label Celtic Conspiracy, will be the featured soloists in an all-celtic program.

Family Launches the Mark Bosworth Fund at 2013 Cycle Oregon Kickoff Party

Family and friends of Mark Bosworth will launch a fund in his name to send fellow cyclists to Cycle Oregon, a yearly event near and dear to Mark's heart. The Mark Bosworth Fund will sponsor a first-time rider in Cycle Oregon each year. Nearly half of this year's fundraising goal of $30,000 has already been raised.

Communities across the globe joined in The Compassionate Friends 16th Worldwide Candle Lighting on December 9, 2012.
The organization's Salem Chapter held their candle lighting event on the Oregon state capitol steps. The names of children who have passed were read aloud to a gathered crowd of more than 100 people.

The Salem Peace Festival is a non-political community event, currently in its fifth exciting year of operation.
John Gordon, who contacted our newsroom on behalf of the event, says the mission is to provide an opportunity for individuals from various faith and cultural backgrounds to come together to promote peace in our community. "We expect to draw more than 600 people to our one day, all-ages event, which takes place on August 18 from 10:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m.," Gordon said.

Sublimity Harvest Festival to Celebrate 40 Years

September Festival is “40 and Pullin’ Strong”
(SUBLIMITY, OR) -
The second weekend in September will mark the 40th annual Sublimity Harvest Festival, a destination family event that started as a local truck and tractor pull competition and has evolved into a three-day outdoor weekend festival that includes monster trucks, multi-engine and modified tractors, ATVs, horses, modified trucks and farm tractors.
The Festival opens on Friday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. with a Pit Party to meet the drivers and their vehicles. The event is held on the Harvest Festival Grounds at Highway 22 and Golf Club Road in Sublimity.
