Police say they had stopped chasing him before the crash.
(ST HELENS, Ore.) -
A Scappoose City Police officer attempted to pull over a 2004 Toyota Highlander in relation to a driving complaint on Highway 30 at about 12:54 p.m. The operator of the Toyota Highlander initially pulled over and then fled the stop westbound.
Three minutes later, after the pursuit had been terminated, the Toyota crashed into the back of a westbound 2012 Honda Civic.
The man had been sitting in the middle of the railroad tracks with his back toward the train.

Just before 7:00 a.m. this morning, an Amtrak train northbound at 34 mph struck a pedestrian approximately 250 yards north of Market Street NE.
When the engineer spotted him they put the train into emergency braking and sounded the horn, but the individual did not move and the train was unable to stop in time.
About 8:46 a.m. there was a report of a two-vehicle, head-on collision on Highway 101 near milepost 174.

OSP Troopers and emergency crews responded to a head on crash Sunday morning about 14 miles north of Florence.
Police say a 2008 Honda CRV operated by 92-year old Eugene Earl Weigant, of Waldport, was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line striking a 1994 Chevrolet Imperial Van operated by 23-year old Tanner Dickinson, of Columbus, Ohio, head-on, according to the preliminary investigation. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage.
Three are behind bars as detectives investigate the fatal shooting.

A report of shots fired brought officers to the 4800 block of Jean Court Northeast Monday morning, just after 8 a.m. When they arrived, they found one man with a single gunshot wound to the head, apparently an armed robbery-gone-wrong.
Two suspects were on the run nearly 24 hours.
A pickup crossed the centerline and cost two lives.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Toyota Sienna van was traveling southbound when it drifted off the roadway, lost control and came back onto the highway.
The Toyota crossed the centerline at an angle where it was struck on the passenger side by a northbound 1999 Acura sedan.
