Man`s Arm Crushed by Conveyor Belt in Canby

The extrication carried out by firefighters and employees took nearly 20 minutes.

(CANBY, Ore.) - A machine crushed a man's arm in a heavy steel belt roller at Canby Sand and Gravel. Canby firefighters say an employee was involved in a digging and hauling operation.

He was cleaning mud off a conveyor when he became entangled in the machine.

Oregon Cigarettes Exclusively `Fire-Safe` in 2008

(SALEM, Ore.) - As of January 1st, 2008 only fire-safer cigarettes are allowed to be sold in Oregon. The law, passed by the Oregon Legislature and signed by Governor Kulongoski in April 2007, allowed wholesalers and retailers until the end of '07 to eliminate their current stock of non-fire safe cigarettes.

"The fire-safer cigarette technology uses specially designed paper with ‘speed bumps' to act as small fire breaks," says State Fire Marshal Nancy Orr.

Car Crash into Creek Claims One Life on Cornelius Pass Road

One female occupant was found dead in a car.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to a report of a car down an embankment and into a creek shortly after 4:00 PM this afternoon on Cornelius Pass Road, approximately a fourth of a mile from St. Helens Road.

Lt. AJ Jackson with Portland Fire & Rescue says people were able to see the vehicle but all the information wasn't clear.

Red Cross Has Busy Day Sunday

One fire displaced a 58-year old physically impaired man.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers in the Portland area had a very busy day, Sunday, when they found themselves responding to two apartment fires back to back.

In both cases, the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter is providing temporary housing at local hotels, meals and other necessities until the fire victims are able to make long term arrangements. Neither fire resulted in any injuries and the cause of both fires remain under investigation by authorities.

Fire Sends Family Into The Dark, Wet, Cold Night

Emergency support for the family was made possible by Oregonians who volunteer and make charitable contributions through the Red Cross.

(OREGON CITY, Ore.) - A family of six in Oregon City is spending the night in a warm hotel, courtesy of the American Red Cross. The family was roused from their sleep when an early morning fire woke them shortly after 1:00 AM this morning.

Salem Family Displaced by Electrical Fire

Investigators determined that the fire was accidental in nature. It stemmed from an electrical failure in the attic.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Fire Department crews responded to a second alarm house fire this morning at 10:30 AM. Jeff Mack with Salem Fire says the residence located at 5128 Cecilia St SE belonged to Mr. Troy Willmon and his family.

The Willmon's discovered the fire in their home this morning and called 911, Mack said. They were able to evacuate the residence.

Working Smoke Alarm Alerts Residents of House Fire

One pet cat was found deceased, but 2 other cats, 2 rats and a dog survived. Logan the dog was transported for smoke inhalation. In keeping with the season, Keizer firefighters picked up the vet's bill.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Keizer Fire crews responded to a house fire at 1973 Petty Grove Ct NE this morning just after 8:30 AM, where they found a garage at the residence engulfed in flames.

Rod Conway with Keizer Fire says the first arriving firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the attached garage with fire spreading into the living area of the house.

Fire Displaces Six People in Keizer

In all, six people have been displaced from the fire.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Firefighters in Keizer arriving at the scene of a structure fire at 12:54 AM say they saw heavy black smoke coming from the roof, and fire shooting out the front window at 4582 Verda Court NE. The fire was quickly spreading to the adjoining unit.

Fire Department Spokesman Joel Stein says an aggressive attack quickly knocked down the flames and firefighters entered both units to confirm all people were out. Firefighters then initiated search for numerous pets and were able to account for all but one cat that was later found deceased at 4582 Verda Court NE.

Pregnant Woman Among Patients Lifeflighted From Crash in Canby

The crash happened on South Barnards Road and South Elisha Road. Of the four injured, three patients were Lifelighted.

(CANBY, Ore.) - Several people including were injured in a car crash at the intersection of S. Barnards Road and S Elisha Road in Canby this evening. A pregnant woman was among the injured. Canby Fire Division Chief Troy Buzalsky says crews were dispatched to the scene at 6:35 PM.

"When firefighters arrived they quickly triaged the scene and determined that they had four patients, two who were out of their vehicles walking, and two still in the mini-van, which was sitting in the middle of a front lawn."

Firefighters Pull Beaverton Woman from Burning Building

Firefighters rescued an adult female from an upstairs bedroom area.

(BEAVERTON, Ore.) - A one-alarm fire critically injured a Beaverton woman and heavily damaged her home Tuesday morning. Neighbors called 9-1-1 dispatchers just after 8:00 AM to report that smoke was coming from the top floor of a tri-level home at 7650 SW 141st near the corner of Kimberly Drive.

Storm Smith with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue says firefighters from four different stations converged on the home with the first arriving engines from South Beaverton and Beaverton Main Fire Stations reporting heavy fire coming from the top story windows.
