One Dead and One Seriously Injured in Crash Near John Day

Fatal traffic crash happened on Highway. 402 east of Monument in Grant Countyā€¸.

(JOHN DAY, Ore.) - Fatal crash Police say a Redmond-area man died and a John Day resident was seriously injured Saturday morning in a single vehicle traffic crash on Highway 402 about 2 1/2 miles east of Monument in Grant County.

Oregon State Police Sergeant Gordon Larson says a crash that happened today at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Damaged Gate at John Day Lock Replaced

The gate at John Day was damaged late February 28th when the Sundial's barge came into contact with the upstream gate while the lock chamber was filling.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gate replacement at the John Day Locks, 3-2-08 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers successfully removed the damaged gate at the John Day lock Sunday and were expected to re-open the lock to river traffic under restricted operations by 6:00 PM today.

Using two cranes, the Corps lifted the 125-ton upper gate out of its housing and placed it on two barges.

Corps Plans to Reopen Columbia River Monday

Over the weekend, the Corps plans to remove the damaged gate and install a temporary floating bulkhead to be used in place of a normal lock gate during repairs or inspections.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - John Day Dam, Columbia River River traffic on the Columbia River at the John Day Dam might reopen as early as Monday, March 3rd, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today.

The upstream navigation lock gate at the facility was extensively damaged late February 28th when barges came into contact with the upstream gate while the lock chamber was filling.
