I am glad that the Oregonian Editorial Board thinks enough of this subject matter to dedicate an entire editorial just to respond to the excellent article, earlier this week, by Oregonian's own Noelle Crombie.
However some of the things they say are incorrect and their tone is offensive to the men and women that I serve as a Veteran's advocate so I hope you will allow me time to address these issues.

Marijuana Legalization, Reefer Madness, and Mad Cow Disease at The Oregonian: Continued...
Dr. Phillip Leveque Salem-News.com
Oregon marijuana advocates want to get the Mexican drug cartels out of Oregon and the marijuana business.
(PORTLAND, OR) -
The Oregonian has recently published three articles demeaning the effort to legalize marijuana.
They seem to ignore the fact that most Oregonians and most Americans are in favor of legalization. Why the newspaper has this position is just NOT understandable.

The minister sits in a Federal holding cell in Hololulu with no end in sight.
(SALEM) -
Two years ago, everything became surreal. In one fail swoop, fourteen people from their church congregation (The Hawai`i Cannabis Ministry) were arrested and charged with marijuana-related crimes. Not assaulting, killing, raping, murdering, robbing, stealing, bribing, child porn, espionage, terrorism or anything of the like. Just pot.
Dubbed “The Hilo 14”, they were charged with conspiracy to manufacture, distribute and possess with intent to distribute 284 marijuana plants.

I don’t think I can have any other explanation of their article on Sunday, July 29th, 2012 entitled, “Flaws in the push to Legalize Marijuana.” and also a similar OPED denigration.
The Oregonian has been debasing medical marijuana since it became legal in 1999 but these two articles ‘take the cake’ in their vehement ignorance...

Marijuana Vs. Methadone
Dr. Phil Leveque Salem-News.com
Cannabis/marijuana had never killed anybody in the probable 5,000 years of its use in medicine.
(MOLALLA, OR) -
The New York Times published on July 10, 2012 that Methadone accounted for about 1/3 of deaths caused by opiate and opioids pain relievers in 2009 but they didn’t give the actual figure.
The opiate, Oxycodone, causes the most deaths followed by hydrocodone, (Vicodin) and Morphine but the opioid Methadone which had been used mostly to get addicts off heroin is now widely used as a pain killer.

Food and Nutrition Service, with the connivance of many government anti-marijuana offices, has decided to kick disabled, destitute medical marijuana patients in the guts AGAIN with totally egregious erroneous statements that, "Marijuana has no currently accepted medical use and can not be prescribed for any medicinal use." Ridiculous.
