I-5 traffic northbound is moving again at the MP 172 back-up, south of Cottage Grove. ODOT and utility crews are working to remove downed line across the southbound lanes. No ETO but it should be soon.
U.S. 101 is closed at MP 343, 12 miles north of Brookings due to sunken grade. No ETO. No detour.
Power is still out in much of Roseburg/Douglas County area.

Bill to Provide Greater Access for Virginia Medical Cannabis Patients Succeeds

(RICHMOND, Va.) -
SB1719 allows “registered agents” for those patients physically unable to pick up or receive delivery of their medical cannabis, like those in hospice, assisted living facilities, and those who rely on home healthcare providers.
“This law will ensure that patients who may be physically incapable of picking up these life-changing medicines on their own will have access to them from throughout the Commonwealth,” said Senator Marsden, of Fairfax County.

Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow Predicted for Oregon Highways

ODOT snow removal teams are on a 24/7 work status across the state.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Weather forecasters are predicting tougher than normal driving conditions across central and northern Oregon highways between now and Tuesday, February 26. Heavy snow is expected, especially above 1500 to 2000 feet, now through late Monday night.
Central Oregon is currently predicted to receive the greater snowfall, but Interstate 84 through the Columbia Gorge is also expected to receive significant snowfall. Snow accumulations in the Northern Oregon Cascade Foothills and Northern Oregon Cascades of 10 to 20 inches is expected tonight through Sunday, though accumulations will be less below 2000 feet.

2-Vehicle Crash on I-5 Kills Gresham Man

All lanes of I-5 southbound were open near Salem by 11 a.m.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
Today at about 5:00 a.m., Oregon State Police and emergency personnel responded to the report of a crash on Interstate 5 near milepost 257.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2003 Kia Rio, operated by 20-year old Jacob Bowlsby, of Gresham, lost control and came to a stop in the middle of the freeway. At the same time, a 1997 Honda Civic, operated by 20-year old Oscar Aguilar Esparza, of Salem, was southbound and collided with the Kia Rio.

Salem Man Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison for Dealing Meth and Cockfighting

Aispuro’s ranch in Scio, Oregon revealed more 200 roosters being raised and trained for fighting.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Arturo Aispuro, of Salem, Oregon, was sentenced today to 78 months in federal prison and 5 years’ of supervised release for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine. He also received a concurrent sentence of 60 months for abusing hundreds of roosters.
Aispuro was a member of a drug trafficking conspiracy operating in and around Salem. In April 2017, with the assistance of a co-conspirator, Aispuro sold 882 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant in Milwaukie, Oregon. In May 2017, law enforcement intercepted Aispuro while he was transporting 442 more grams of meth for distribution.

Coastal oil drilling would negatively affect environment and coastal economy

An offshore drilling ban on the Oregon Coast is moving forward in the Oregon Legislature. Senate Bill 256 would make the state’s existing ban on exploration and drilling for oil off the Oregon coastline permanent.
“This bipartisan legislation builds on our state’s proud history of coastal protection...It also protects our existing coastal economy from potential future perils. This bill reflects the Oregon Way that we embrace in coastal communities.”

Lebanon Firefighters Battle Large Shop Fire

Explosions could be heard due to the storage of acetylene, propane and gas tanks.
(LEBANON, Ore.) -
The Lebanon Fire District responded to a structure fire today at 1046 F Street in Lebanon. Crews arrived on scene to a large shop being consumed by a fully involved fire.
The initial incident commander called for a second alarm to request additional units from neighboring fire districts as crews immediately began extinguishment efforts.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, Wildlife Images came up with a highly original idea to get some extra donation money from the public, and have some fun doing it.
Specifically, they invited spurned, jilted or otherwise unlucky-in-love individuals to have salmon named after their ex-partners, and then fed to the Center’s two brown bears, Kodi and Yak.

Salem Cop One of The Mac Men Arrested for Burglary

Two men, including an off-duty Salem Police officer, have been charged with multiple felonies.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Cardenas is charged with two counts of aggravated theft in the first degree, four counts of burglary in the second degree and one count of unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
Thayres is charged with one count of theft in the first degree and one count of unlawful possession of methamphetamine. Seth Thayres is a police officer with the City of Salem, and has been for six years.

Snow West of the Cascades Starting Thursday Night

Temperatures will be cold enough for snow to stick.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
The next possibility for low elevation snow will be on Thursday night into Friday morning. A band of light precipitation is expected to develop over the region during this time, which will likely result in some snow flurries with little to no accumulation for many locations.
A cold air mass will remain over the Pacific Northwest through the weekend, and potentially much of next week as well. This will likely result in additional chances for low elevation snowfall.
