Salem Drinking Water Advisory Continues for Two Weeks

Though water is "safe for most", drinking water filling stations are open.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Test results received this morning from water samples taken on Saturday, June 9, indicate the presence of cyanotoxins in the water distribution system is below EPA advisory levels for vulnerable populations.

As a precautionary measure, the City of Salem extended the drinking water advisory for at least two more weeks to ensure safe drinking water for our residents and water customers.

Murder of Michael Francke: Focus of Film and Fundraiser for Englewood Forest Festival

Many insiders believe the man convicted in the murder, Frank Gable, was a patsy.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Frank Gable The Englewood Forest Festival, a summer arts festival at Englewood Park in Salem, Oregon is presenting “Without Evidence”, a film about the murder that occurred near the park in January of 1989.

The location was in the neighborhood at the Dome Building – office of the Department of Corrections, 7 blocks away from the park, and the victim was Michael Francke, the Director of the Oregon Dept. of Corrections.

Oregon`s Capitol City Issues Another Toxic Water Advisory

As was true last week, the school district will not make bottled water available to kids in school ages 6-18.

(SALEM, Ore.) - bottled water The water "advisory" is back on for Salem and areas around Salem.

Results from water quality samples received Wednesday morning (June 6, 2018) indicate that cyanotoxins are present in the City of Salem’s water distribution system at levels that exceed Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines for children and vulnerable populations.

Bend Firefighter Killed in Motorcycle Crash with Bear

Tragedy is a reminder of unforeseen risks on the road.

(WARM SPRINGS, Ore.) - Rhett Larsen 39-year old Rhett Larsen, an off-duty firefighter from Bend, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound when a large bear ran into his path on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation. He was unable to avoid the bear and struck the animal in the eastbound lane.

Larsen was thrown from his motorcycle and then was struck by a westbound Ford SUV pulling a utility trailer driven by 57-year old Margaret Sweo, from Oregon City. Sweo's vehicle traveled off the roadway and rolled onto its side.

Oregon Governor Brown Joins Growing Opposition to Trump`s Domestic Gag Rule

"We stand with women and men in our states by rejecting this Administration’s efforts to interfere in the doctor-patient relationship..."

(SALEM, Ore.) - Gag rule Oregon Governor Kate Brown joined 13 other governors across the country in sending a letter to Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar opposing the Trump-Pence administration’s domestic gag rule, which would make it illegal for healthcare providers to refer for abortion and impose new restrictions intended to block patients from Planned Parenthood health centers for birth control.

They join the 73 percent of Americans, 200 members of Congress and 110 public health organizations who already oppose the rule.

Water Stations To Open in Salem and Turner

There are several sites to fill up your containers with good water.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem water sites Free drinking water will be available at multiple locations throughout Marion and Polk counties tonight. The water distribution operation is a cooperative effort between Marion County, City of Salem, and the Oregon Military Department.

Once they begin, the sites will operate around the clock until further notice. All bulk water distribution locations are pull-through. Residents must bring their own containers. There is a 5 gallon limit per vehicle.

Head-on Fatal Crash with Pacific Power Truck on Hwy 199

This crash is still under investigation.

(GRANTS PASS, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Today at approximately 8:48 AM, Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a two vehicle crash on US Hwy 199 near milepost 5, just south of Grants Pass in Josephine County.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Ford F150 was travelling north on US Hwy 199 when, for unknown reasons, it veered into oncoming lanes and crashed into a southbound Pacific Power utility truck head-on.
