Salem-News.com blazes the trail for "New Media" and wants you to come along.

(SALEM, Ore.) - A news group in Oregon has been on a path toward reinventing the way news is presented in the United States for the past five years. Salem-News.com is staffed by a team of volunteer writers and every one has invested a great deal of time, money and labor, to get to this point.

Three weeks ago, we launched a video newscast which is the first of its type, as a local origination program that is not a byproduct of the Portland television news media. There have been some great moments already and a lot of hustle.

It`s a Tech World, After All

Today's technology is a blessing and a curse.

(AGOURA, Calif.) - I love technology. I hate technology. I get so frustrated with technology. All of the above. That’s my generation and definitely me. My friend Marty is a tech wizard, while my wife is still using computers primarily for e-mail. I’m somewhat in the middle with my knowledge and depth of tech use and dependence, though my boys laugh at my attempts to learn anything new.

But, it’s hard to resist all we hear about what every new tech gadget has to offer, especially for us men (a.k.a. boys and their toys).

(SALEM, Ore. ONS) - Oregon is the first state to ban the sale of so-called electronic cigarettes, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will soon be in court to fight the same battle nationally.

The battery-operated tube looks like a real paper-and-tobacco cigarette, but contains nicotine and flavors that can be inhaled without producing smoke. The FDA wants to regulate them as drug devices.

US Government Site Hacked - Now Serving Up Spam

The offending pages are still readily available more than 12 hours after reporting.

(SALEM, Ore.) - I regularly get spam but this morning I got one that gained my attention. The link was to a US Government Website. I won't give the full links in text form but it was on http://collaborate.nist.gov/ which seems to be some sort of invitation only collaboration / wiki site.

Now more than 12 hours later I have still not had another email and the offending pages are still readily available.

New Website Will Aid Oregon Prisoners Reentering Society
