The thrills and spills were not in short order, no way!

The debut of the Cherry City Roller Derby in Salem over the weekend was a massive success, so much so that people were turned away at the door of the Salem Pavilion.
Crowd estimates were in the neighborhood of 3000 and that seems like a conservative estimate. The hardcore fast-paced knock 'em out of your way approach that this sport represents, was matched by the buzz and excitement of eager fans that waited a long time to see this women's sport reemerge.

Salem Armed Robbery Suspects at Large (VIDEO)

Investigators say that although both of these cases are very similar, they do not believe they are connected at this time.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
Police are searching for an armed robbery suspect who struck two Salem businesses Saturday night. The first robbery happened at 8:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Lancaster Drive NE at the 76 Gas Station.
Both of the employees who were robbed at that location, told Salem-News.com the suspect approached them at the gasoline pumps, and then fled northbound on Lancaster Drive NE in a white Honda.

There was a certain kind of feeling present Saturday at the State Fairground Pavilion that's a little hard to describe.
Electricity was in the air and the place had a magical sense as Salem residents lined up for a night of roller skates and fishnet stockings, to watch ladies with names like "Areola 51" and "Like a Virgin" compete in a sport that used to be very popular in Oregon.

Good times were had by all on Day #10 at the Oregon State Fair.

Just enough rain to keep it fresh, and all the games, rides, food and entertainment kids young and old could hope for were on the agenda Sunday.
A state fair to remember.
Parking at the fair was free this year, helping offset the costs for families who visited from all over Oregon and beyond. Most of all the fair is about kids. And every age every size, and every type made it and had a fantastic time enjoying the many things to see and do.

The excitement is almost too much to take, especially for one pot bellied pig at the Oregon State Fair's petting zoo, popular for his quick reaction time in getting his belly scratched. Kids of all ages can't resist the animals.
Every one's not losing their footing though, in fact some are taking to the air.

The second day of the 2009 Oregon State Fair opened with an array of events and activities. For 11 days, this will be Oregon's second largest city, with more than 380,000 people expected to attend.
They say the fair has something for everybody, giving fairgoers a chance to let loose and show their uplifting Oregon spirit, by the means of a bungee ride in some cases.

The weather didn't dampen spirits on opening day of the Oregon State Fair 2009. Governor Kulongoski made light of the liquid sunshine, a tradition for most Oregon events.
"No place else in the United States could you open a state fair during the summer months... and we'd be in raincoats! Come on, this is what it is like on the Fourth of July, it never changes, it is just who we are."
