Dominican Republic Teams Bring Relief in Haiti (VIDEO)

Dominican aid workers, under the watchful eye of Peruvian peacekeepers, carried on a food distribution operation today (19 January) one week since a terrifying earthquake hit the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. MINUSTAH

(PORT-AU-PRINCE/SALEM) - Humanitarian workers from the Dominican Republic prepare to distribute food in the slum of Cité Soleil Aid workers from the Dominican Republic, under the watchful eye of Peruvian peacekeepers, spent the day carrying on food distribution operation today. It has been one week since a terrifying earthquake leveled much of the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.

Death toll estimates are around 200,000 now; the number has grown as each day since the disaster has passed.

UN Secretary-General Mourns Deaths of Top UN Officials in Haiti Quake

UN officials lost their lives in the devastating 7.0 magnitude tremors on Tuesday.

(PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti) - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Haiti Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon paid tribute to the top United Nations officials who perished in the catastrophic earthquake which struck Haiti on Tuesday.

“In every sense of the word, they gave their lives for peace,” Ban said.

Yeats is also involved in a research project to create a global fault database that will provide more scientific information about faults around the world.

(CORVALLIS, Ore.) - Ggeologist Robert Yeats, a professor emeritus at Oregon State University An international earthquake expert at OSU suggested just over one week ago that one of the world’s most at-risk locations for a major, destructive earthquake is the fault that runs through Haiti and near Port-au-Prince.

That comment was made during an interview with a reporter for Scientific American, by geologist Robert Yeats, a professor emeritus who said the death toll would be tremendous.

Haiti: Still Too Soon for Deadly Earthquake`s Casualty Toll

Now quake-shattered Haiti awaits aid as thousands are feared dead. Some sources place the number in the hundreds, but it is simply too early to know.

(SALEM) - The earthquake that rocked Haiti on 12 January is considered the deadliest this island nation has seen in two centuries, and it is still too early to have any real idea of what the casualty toll will be.

Russia Today Correspondent Anastasia Churkina says it is, "Mayhem and chaos." Every third building is down, three million people are affected, and six hundred thousand are homeless.
