Deadly Toxic Chemicals from El Toro Marine Base Affect Woodbridge in Irvine

The Internet is allowing the truth about this contaminated and closed down Marine air base to move into public view. Sign the petition to help Marines, the link is at the bottom of this article.

(IRVINE, Calif.) - El Toro Marine Air Station A Salem-News.com series that began May 1st 2007 about deadly toxic contamination at the now-closed El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Orange County, California, seemed like unwelcome news at the time to City of Irvine officials and also the public representative for the Irvine Ranch Water District.

Loose lips do sink ships, but so do plenty of other things. The ship in this case, was a huge development project planned by Lenar Homes that would have turned the dangerously polluted base into an upper end housing community and public park.

Construction ground to a halt and the base is now being used to store automobiles.

Iraq and Afghanistan (VIDEO)

Comparing the differences between America's two war zones as casualties in Afghanistan spike.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Afghanistan and Iraq are disctincly different places, yet they have plenty in common in the minds of American families. Every emotion in the universe can be attached to the wars in these faraway places.

The deaths of five U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan and one in Iraq in recent days, remind us that the cost of our military mission is steep.

If allied forces can find eventual success in Afghanistan, then there would be a measurable accomplishment for the sacrifice of the last several years.

Obama Economic Advisor Addresses the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan`s Job Impact (VIDEO)

The bottom line is that recovering from the last 8 years is going to be tough, and without Obama's plan, it would be even harder on America.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Salem-News.com Christina Romer, the future head of the Council of Economic Advisers, along with the next vice president’s chief economist, Jared Bernstein, released estimates Saturday of what the Obama economic plan would accomplish.

A New York Times Op-Ed by Columnist Paul Krugman, calls the report "reasonable and intellectually honest, which is a welcome change from the fuzzy math of the last eight years."

But the report makes it clear that the real needs of the economy can not be met with this plan.

Coast Guard Rescues Surfers in Newport, Oregon (VIDEO)

The names of the surfers were not immediately available.

(SEATTLE) - Oregon's Yaquina Head Coast Guard officials say a man and a girl were hoisted from the rocks at Yaquina Head, Oregon, Sunday by one of their helicopter crews.

The Coast Guard Group/Air Station North Bend, Oregon, was contacted by Lincoln County dispatch at 2:32 PM and advised that three surfers were trapped on the rocks at Agate Beach near Yaquina Head.

The Coast Guard says crews from their stations at Depoe Bay and Yaquina Bay launched two 47-foot boat crews while an HH-65 crew from Coast Guard Air Facility at Newport was diverted to the scene.

Coast Guard Rescues Injured Crewman Near Umpqua River (VIDEO)

A man was medically evacuated from a fishing vessel near Umpqua River, Oregon, Saturday.

(NORTH BEND, Ore.) - Coast Guard rescue The U.S. Coast Guard has released video of a rescue operation over the weekend near the Umpqua River on the Pacific Ocean off Oregon.

Coast Guard Group Air Station in North Bend, Oregon was notified around 11:00 PM Saturday, that a man aboard the 50-foot crabbing vessel Rose Marie, had a serious hand injury.

A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched to evacuate the man from the vessel.

The Willamette River in Salem is running at a very high level, but Friday has been good for many parts of Oregon including the capitol city, where residents have feared flooding from the state's swollen rivers.

While Salem is faring well, that is not the case in many parts of the state. Areas with residential and business development along rivers require extra measures to protect the property. At times, Bailey says, the best thing to do is evacuate.
