The Future of Nuclear Power In The U.S.

Opponents of nuclear power are using a worst-case analysis to scare people by focusing on the nuclear disaster at Japan's Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Diablo Canyon, near San Luis Obispo, CA (PG&E photo) In order to keep the lights on and the motors running while reducing harm to humans and planet Earth, fossil-fuel power has to shrink.

While we shouldn't forget Three Mile Island and Chernobyl and the recent disaster at Japan's Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, we need a rational discussion about the future of nuclear power in this country without misinformation and histrionics.

High Cancer Rates for Vietnam Veterans

Our nation’s veterans not getting the service connected benefits rightfully due to them when they are diagnosed with cancer caused by exposure to Agent Orange.

False Maritime Distress Calls Affect USCG, Taxpayers, and Mariners in Distress

The Coast Guard must remain vigilant and take all distress calls seriously.

(SEATTLE) - Salem-News.com John W. Graham, 37, of Seattle, was indicted, Wednesday, by a federal grand jury for three counts of making false statements related to phony reports of a vessel in distress.

The U.S. Coast Guard says most distress calls at sea are legit; usually the callers are truly in distress. But some of those calls are suspected or found to be false distress calls or hoaxes.

VCS Statement: A Vital Constitutional Victory for Our Veterans

The lengthy bureaucratic delays our veterans face must end now.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. Yesterday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled VA's mental health care system and disability claims system remain badly broken, and veterans face long delays to see doctors and obtain benefits.

The Court of Appeals ordered VA to fix what it descrbed "egregious problems." VCS believes now is the time for our President, VA Secretary, and Congress to fix VA.

Breaching Whale Strikes Sailboat Near Astoria

Nobody was injured, the vessel had been participating in the Oregon International Offshore Race to Victoria, B.C.

(ASTORIA, Ore.) - L`Orca rests at Astoria`s West End Basin pier after having its rigging and mast demolished by a breaching whale near Astoria. A sailboat was struck by a breaching whale near the coast of Astoria, Thursday. The vessel and its crew were taking part in a race to Victoria, B.C., when the whale surfaced.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a report from the 38-foot sailing vessel L'Orca at 9:30 a.m. after the whale breached the surface of the water and crushed the rigging and mast of the boat when it fell back into the water.
