Facebook and Privacy

Experts in the field of Internet privacy generally agree that Internet privacy does not really exist.

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Facebook logo I am not here to bash Facebook. (Did I hear Mark Zuckerberg’s sigh of relief?) However, I do want to sound a note of caution to present and future Facebook users.

I have a Facebook account. I only include publicly available information such as, for example, my Salem-News articles. Even if I had dirty laundry, I wouldn't air it on Facebook, nor would I disclose intimate details of my life.

The First Martyr of 2011 and Where We Go from Here

This is the year truth begins to come out in such a large dose that it was hard to sustain mythology; the most common hope for 2011 is to see peace and justice prevail (no more ethnic cleansing, no more killing etc).

(BIL'IN, Occupied Palestine) - Protest at Bil`in where Jawaher Abu Rahma, the sister of the slain protestor Bassem Abu Rahma, was fatally injured by tear gas fired by Israeli troops. We were devastated to hear the news of the first martyr in 2011 being none other than Jawaher, the sister of the martyr Bassem Abu Rahma from Bil'in.

Jawaher fainted in yesterday's demonstration but died apparently of this toxic tear gas (a much stronger version with unknown chemicals than used in the West).

Train Crashes East of Baker City

No injuries were reported in connection with the derailment.

(BAKER CITY, Ore.) - Derailed train cars Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers from the LaGrande Area Command were part of a multi agency response to a train derailment that resulted in the closure of I-84 between Baker City and Ontario Friday afternoon.

Numerous cars from the westbound train derailed in close proximity to I-84 near milepost 335. The location of the derailment is approximately 30 miles east of Baker City, Oregon.

(BIL'IN, Occupied Palestine) - Friends stand fast for the people of Bil`in in Occupied Palestine Doctors at the Ramallah hospital fought for Jawaher Abu Rahmah's life all night at the Ramallah Hospital, but were unable to save her life.

Abu Rahmah suffered from severe asphyxiation caused by tear-gas inhalation yesterday in Bil'in, and was evacuated to the Ramallah hospital unconscious.

Agent Orange Cleanup to Start at Former US Base in Vietnam

The agreement covers contamination at the Danang airport in central Vietnam.

(HANOI (AFP) ) - Agence France-Press Vietnam and the United States aim to start cleaning up contamination from Agent Orange at a former wartime US base in the middle of next year, the US embassy said Thursday.

A memorandum signed between the two sides "confirms the mutual desire of both governments to cooperate in hopes that cleanup can begin in July 2011 and be completed in October 2013," the statement said.

(UPDATE) Police Seek Suspect in McMinnville Shooting

From statements given to investigators it appears as though the suspect knew the victim and this is not a random act.

(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Shooting McMinnville Police say a man was shot last night at the Circle K convenience store located at 840 NE 3rd Street.

Officers responded to the scene at 6:38 p.m. and located a Hispanic man, identified as 36-year old Javier Vage Jr. of Salem, who had been shot in the hand and leg.
