Siletz Tribe Funds to Aid Local Emergency Food Agencies

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Five nonprofit partners that provide food and shelter to needy people in Marion County will benefit from a $4,831 grant for equipment from Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund. Marion-Polk Food Share will accept the grant in a distribution ceremony on Nov. 5 at Chinook Winds Hotel in Lincoln City.

As the regional food bank, MPFS provides capacity building support as well as food supplies to its 87 member charities throughout Marion and Polk counties. The grant request made by MPFS on behalf of its network partners will benefit two Salem shelters, Salem Outreach Shelter/YWCA, Stepping Out Ministries; one in Mt. Angel, St. Joseph Shelter; three Forever Homes (one in Keizer and two in Salem) operated by Catholic Community Services; and Sacred Heart Food Bank in Gervais.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Selma Al-Radi Noted Iraqi archaeologist Selma Al-Radi passed away 7 October 2010.

She was known by many and highly regarded for having spent more than twenty-years involved with the restoration of the Amiriya Madrasa, a sixteenth-century madrasa in Rada, Yemen, which is under consideration as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Children as Weapons of War; Okay says President Obama

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Apparently the rampant epidemic problem of children in war is A-OK with U.S. President Obama International Human Rights groups and organizations are outraged and left grappling for answers. Earlier this week President Obama gave four countries a year pass, a waiver for the use of child in war; Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), Sudan, and Yemen.

In one momentary, sweeping act President Obama has undercut years of work and thousands of dollars spent in effort to protect children worldwide from this very traumatizing act.

Reported Gunshot Victim in Newberg

(NEWBERG, Ore.) - Shooting Investigation This morning at approximately 7:10 am officers from the Newberg-Dundee Police Department were called to a local business on a report of a gunshot victim. An investigation is underway at the business and one person is confirmed deceased.

At this time there does not appear to be nefarious circumstances but the name is not being released pending family notification. Some family is out of the immediate area so this could delay any further information.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem`s Statesman Journal Newspaper story title quickly establishes the intent of  reporter and newspaper. Police and news media in Salem used the testimony of a known criminal to hang a pair of African-American state security officers out to dry in November 2008.

Now that same convict, Joe Salazar, once the star witness of a Statesman Journal article, is facing years in prison for a life of criminal domestic abuse.

Haliburton Comments on National Commission Cement Testing

(HOUSTON, Texas) - Haliburton logo On October 28, 2010, the Commission released results of cement testing Chevron recently conducted on behalf of the Commission utilizing the Chevron cement testing facility in Houston, Texas.

In addition, on October 28, 2010, the Deputy Chief Counsel of the Commission sent a letter to the commissioners of the National Commission that describes the results of nine tests on Halliburton’s cement design that were performed on behalf of the Commission by Chevron and describes certain testing performed by Halliburton.

Pedestrian Struck by Train in Salem

The pedestrian was transported to the Salem Hospital where he is being for life-threatening injuries.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Train versus pedestrian scene in Salem, Oregon Police say a southbound Union Pacific freight train struck a pedestrian around 7:51 Thursday evening, near the State Street crossing.

The investigation revealed the pedestrian, a 47-year old Salem resident, was walking northbound on the railroad tracks at the time of the collision.
