Trash Truck Rollover on Highway 47 South of Gaston

(GASTON, Ore.) - rolled truck Oregon State Police (OSP) is completing the investigation into an overturned commercial truck and trailer that dumped a load of household trash onto Highway 47 south of the Washington / Yamhill County line. The crash closed the highway and the involved driver was treated and released for minor injuries.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Homeland insecurity As if color-coded domestic terror advisories were not vague enough, the U.S. State Department has now issued a travel alert, set to expire on Jan. 31, 2011, for Americans in Europe.

According to The New York Times, “The decision to warn travelers came as officials in Europe and the United States were assessing possible plots originating in Pakistan and North Africa, aimed at Britain, France and Germany.”

Cholera Outbreak Spreads in Cameroon

Government cuts have slashed the budget to try to cope with the outbreak, only to encounter more obstacles.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Children in Cameroon Children’s Aid Agency Plan International is appealing the UN for $200,000, Cameroon is facing the worst cholera outbreak in a decade as the deadly disease envelops remote villages. The epidemic has thus far killed 421 people since May and infected 6,300 more.

“Some sick children have not got enough food to eat because their families are so poor,” says Plan’s country director in Cameroon, Casimir Youmbi.

Hud Approves $27.1 Million Financing for Major Construction at Acute Care Hospital in Stayton

HUD estimates the Santiam Memorial Hospital construction project will support 394 full-time jobs

(STAYTON, Ore.) - Housing and Urban Development The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced a commitment to insure a mortgage loan to Santiam Memorial Hospital in Stayton, Oregon. The $27.1 million loan is made possible through the Federal Housing Administration's (FHA) Section 242 Hospital Mortgage Insurance Program.

Santiam Memorial Hospital operates a 40-bed facility and three on-campus clinics, as well as off-site clinics in the nearby towns of Mill City, Sublimity, and Aumsville. The FHA-insured mortgage loan will be used to construct a four-story patient tower with private beds adjacent to the existing hospital building. This new tower will replace the outdated facility that was constructed in 1963. It will house medical/surgical units, an intensive care unit, surgical services, and obstetrics. The existing building will be refurbished and used as a chapel and to increase outpatient activity space.

Veterans of former Marine Wing Support Group-37, MCAS El Toro, California are unaware of their risk of exposure to carcinogens and many have ‘not connected the dots ‘of illness to military service.

(IRVINE, Calif. ) - MCAS El Toro Hundreds and maybe thousands of 55 gallon drums of trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE) were used at MCAS El Toro over decades to degrease aircraft parts.

A major concern is that both chemicals are carcinogens. The men using them did not wear protective clothing and masks, and the waste was dumped into storm drains or directly in the ground.
