Though concentrated in an 8-day week, Oregon Days of Culture highlights everyday culture in every Oregon community

Hillsboro to hold public hearing on urban livestock

Public testimony will be taken at the meeting prior to council deliberations

Open House October to Spotlight New Animal Residents at the Oregon Coast Aquarium

Visitors will be treated to behind the scene glimpses of exhibits with new animals

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Maya the sea lion The Oregon Coast Aquarium is inviting visitors behind the scenes throughout the month of October during special interpretive glimpses of daily featured exhibits. "Open House October" will offer visitors a chance to see how Aquarium animals are cared for, how the life support systems work and areas normally off limits to the public.

"The Aquarium has acquired three new animals recently and one more is arriving soon," said Cindy Hanson, Aquarium Public Relations Manager. "We'd like to take this opportunity to spotlight a different animal each week and let everyone know about our new residents." Areas open to public view will be listed on a schedule at the Visitor Services area near the Aquarium lobby. All activities are included with regular Aquarium admission.

Governor Schwarzenegger Signs Bill to Reduce Marijuana Penalties in California

The new bill changes marijuana possession of less than an ounce to an infraction.

(SACRAMENTO) - Schwarzenegger marijuana To the Members of the California State Senate: I am signing Senate Bill 1449.

This bill changes the crime of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana from a misdemeanor punishable only by a $100 fine to an infraction punishable by a $100 fine. Under existing law, jail time cannot be imposed, probation cannot be ordered, nor can the base fine exceed $100 for someone convicted of this crime.

Dump Truck Crashes into Car on SW Hwy 99

Both injured parties are expected to live.

(SHERWOOD, Ore.) - Wrecked Dump truck On Thursday, September 30, 2010, at about 5:37 p.m., Sheriff's deputies were called to a crash on SW Highway 99 and SW Chapman Road. This area is in unincorporated Washington County south of the City of Sherwood.

Deputies investigating the crash determined that a silver Chrysler Concord, driven by 19-year-old Angelica Armijo of Sherwood, pulled out in front of a 1976 Chevrolet C-60 dump truck driven by 52-year-old Ronald Koch of St. Paul.

Officials say the deer was shot sometime during the evening of September 17 or the morning of September 18, 2010.

(BURNS, Ore.) - Oregon State Police Oregon State Police (OSP) Fish and Wildlife Division troopers from the Burns work site are asking for the public's help to identify the suspect(s) responsible for an illegal deer kill that occurred within the city limits of Hines, Oregon. A reward of up to $500 for information leading to an arrest in this case is being offered by the Oregon Hunters Association Turn in a Poacher (T.I.P.) Program. The T.I.P. reward program pays for information leading to the arrest and conviction of person(s) involved in the illegal killing, taking, possession or waste of big game animals, upland game birds or waterfowl.
