The Oregon Garden Fire Safety House to serve as life-sized teaching tool

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - Oregon Garden House The Oregon Garden Foundation is excited to announce a partnership to develop the first full-scale fire prevention and safety house in the nation. Teaming with Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM), Moonstone Garden Management, Inc., and Oregon State University (OSU), the foundation will use grant funds and donations to remodel a home located on The Oregon Garden property in Silverton into one that showcases fire-resistant landscaping and building construction on the outside and home fire prevention and safety on the inside.

Small airplane makes emergency landing in Battle Ground

(Battle Ground, Wash.) - Salem-News.com Battle Ground Police responded to an airplane making an emergency landing in the city limits. The airplane, privately owned and single engine, landed after the pilot experienced engine problems. The pilot was alone in the airplane and was not injured during the landing in an open field at approximately 1100 blk of SW 20th Ave. The pilot is from Lake Stevens, Washington and is not being identified.

Solar incentive pilot project again proves popular

Another customer allotment will be available in early April 2011

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Solar Panels It took just five minutes to fill all available slots in the second installment of a new pilot program that encourages Oregon electric utility customers to install solar panels to generate power.

An estimated 128 projects gained initial approval, claiming the amount of electrical generation set aside for this second allotment. A total 947 kilowatts of capacity was available to Pacific Power customers proposing projects of 10 kilowatts or smaller. Mid-sized systems, from 10 kilowatts to 100 kilowatts, vied for 534 kilowatts of capacity.

Lake Oswego Police offer reward for fugitive

(LAKE OSWEGO, Ore.) - Tony Murray Police need public assistance in locating Melvin Anthony (Tony) Murray. Mr. Murray is 5'7" tall, weighs 150 pounds and is a white male with brown hair and brown eyes.

Mr. Murray currently has two outstanding arrest warrants, for theft, and is believed by investigators to be involved in numerous other crimes to include forgeries and burglaries in the Portland Metropolitan area.
Mr. Murray is suspected in passing a forged check for over 4,000 dollars in Lake Oswego and attempted to do the same at a church in Gresham where he was given temporary refuge. These checks were later discovered to have been stolen, altered and cashed prior to the victims being aware of the theft of their checks.

Half Million Dollars Worth of Cocaine and Marijuana seized by Clexico Port Officers in one day

The weight of the narcotic was 123 pounds with a street value of $123,000

(Calexico, Calif.) - Officers discovered 21 wrapped packages of cocaine concealed inside the gas tank. The estimated street value of the cocaine is $480,000. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico ports of entry yesterday seized 183 pounds of cocaine and marijuana valued at more than $500,000, in two separate smuggling attempts.

The first seizure occurred at about 7:30 a.m. at the Calexico downtown port after CBP officers discovered 60 pounds of cocaine hidden in a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck. The driver, a 43-year-old male United States citizen was arrested.
