Pakistan: Relief Delivery Picks Up as New Areas Submerged

The latest official figures suggest that the level of destruction in Sindh could be similar to that reported in Punjab, where an estimated 500,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed.

(ISLAMABAD / PORTLAND) - Flooding in Pakistan Aid agencies, including the International Office of Migration (IOM), are racing to get more emergency shelter to displaced flood victims as more villages and towns become submerged under floodwaters in the south of the country.

Figures released by Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) put the number of homes damaged or destroyed in Sindh province to 462,000 from 176,000 last week.

Oregon Zoo gives grant to Washington State DOC for frog rehabilitation

The frog rehabilitation is part of the Sustainable Prisons Project, a partnership between the Department of Corrections and The Evergreen State College.

(Olympia, WA) - Washington State DOC Logo The Department of Corrections received a grant from the Oregon Zoo to rehabilitate an endangered species of frog that lives in the Pacific Northwest. The staff and offenders at Cedar Creek Corrections Center have had a higher success rate at rearing the Oregon spotted frog than zoos and nature centers in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Prison bars An inmate named Terrence Kimble in Oregon's Snake River Corrections Facility, says he was offered a bribe to testify for the prosecution, when the state set out to frame a former Oregon corrections officer named William Coleman.

Now this inmate is routinely being locked in 'the hole' each time he communicates with Coleman to discuss racial matters in the prison.

Passed from one reader to another, the message states that on August 27th Mars will approach Earth and swell to the size of a full Moon. "NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN," the email declares -- always in caps.

The hoax began in 2003 when on August 27th Mars came within 56 million km of Earth the nearest it has been in 60,000 years.

Suspect Arrested in Campbell Drive Shooting

Anyone with additional information regarding crimes committed by Scott Farler is asked to call the Salem Police Department at (503)588-6050.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Scott Farler Yesterday, just after 3:30 PM, the Salem Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at the Saddle Club Apartments, 4600 Campbell Dr SE. When police arrived they discovered that Jamison Nguyen, 23 years of age, had sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg and right arm. Nguyen was transported by medics to Salem Hospital, where he was treated and released for his injuries.

Witnesses described seeing the shooter leaving in an older black car with t-tops and paint in poor condition.
