Eastern Oregon cattle ranchers get away with criminal behavior toward the families of federal employees.

(HARNEY COUNTY, Ore.) - Cattle in Harney County, Oregon Six hundred miles north of Tonopah, Nevada, in the high desert of central Oregon, lies Harney County, another site of intense confrontation between federal officials and the militant property rights movement.

Here federal Fish and Wildlife Service agents sought to fence off a wetland that had been trampled by a rancher’s cows on the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge about thirty miles south of the dust-caked town of Burns.

Escaped Prison Population Poses Threat in Haiti

Officials plan to build areas to house the recaptured inmates, most likely outside the capital, but so far they have only recaptured 36 of some 5,100 missing prisoners.

(PORT-AU-PRINCE/SALEM) - Prison Civile de Port-au-Prince Thousands of inmates fled Haiti’s main prison after buildings collapsed during the earthquake on 13 January, and they have posed a threat to security in this battered island nation.

Officials say Prison Civile de Port-au-Prince had been burned down by the prisoners after the earthquake in an attempt to destroy prison records. With the capital in such a vulnerable state, there was some concern that escapees may return to areas like Cite Soleil and try and form gangs.

There is another sort of individual that exists in the corporate sense quite distinct from ordinary human beings, and it is to it that the Supreme Court directed its attention recently...

Revitalizing Community, Revitalizing Our Economy

Echoing the ratification of provisional government at Champoeg, Oregonians' recent votes affirmed the value of community, as expressed through our public structures.

(SILVERTON, Ore.) - Andy Grove If mythology actually squared with reality, it would not be a lone Oregon Pioneer standing atop Oregon's Capitol. Rather, it would be the group of settlers who voted to create a provisional government at Champoeg in 1843. For while the myth of the self-made individual runs deep in our culture, it's the presence of community that makes individual success possible.

Today, as economic forces batter Oregonians and people across the nation, we must rediscover the value of community, as expressed in our public structures. It is by strengthening our public structures -- our schools, court systems, transportation infrastructure, to name a few -- that we can restore economic opportunity.

First of all, if a person is arrested on any kind of marijuana charge the judge will say so many days, months or years in jail or go to a drug rehabilitation program.

Military Environmental Hazards Bill Faces Hurdles

Congressional jurisdictional issues and Defense Department resistance to accepting responsibility for harming veterans and dependents are major impediments to passing a final bill and ultimately providing medical care.
