Jerry West Salem-News.com
Solstice festival, the celebration of the birth of the Sun, was changed to celebrate the birth of the Son.
(GOLD RIVER, B.C.) -
Once more we have come to the end of a year. The Sun has reached its nadir on the horizon of the northern hemisphere, and we will once again begin the journey back to summer and fishing season.
In earlier times, one could contemplate their future and wonder how many fishing seasons they had left in their life, meaning of course how much longer they had to live. Today I wonder which will end first, my life or the return of the fish.

"The blockade of Gaza has brought death, destruction, pain and suffering to the people there. The international community must not ignore their cries for help" - Former US President Jimmy Carter

Using the pretext of escalating tensions on the Gaza-Egypt border, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated yesterday that the Rafah border will be closed over the coming weeks, into January.
The group behind the Gaza Freedom March responded, "We do not feel threatened, and that if there are any risks, they are risks we are willing to take. It was my task to write something about the holidays and relate the meaning and experience of the holidays to the lives of our friends in the refugee camps. As I stare at the blank Word Doc, instead of the spirit of Christmas coming over me, what I get is this overwhelming feeling of déjà vu!
