Iran to Test New Air Defense System

Russia and Iran clinched a deal on the sale of S-300 system in December 2007, but Russia has delayed delivery.

(TEHRAN PressTV) - Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi Iran is to test a new anti-aircraft defense system during a five-day aerial maneuver, the Iranian defense minister has said.

The large-scale maneuver, which was launched on Sunday, is mainly aimed at developing the country's aerial defenses against any potential attack on the country's nuclear plants.

Police Say Driving Rampage Ends in Fatal Shots

Police say a man shot at police after crashing into cars and shooting an innocent bystander.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Hillsboro Police say a report of a man shooting a gun out of his vehicle after ramming into several other vehicles, ultimately led to a series of incidents that left one bystander and the suspect, mortal injured from gunshot wounds.

The call came in Saturday at 1:24 p.m. and was reported in the area of SE Baseline Street and SE 10th Avenue in Hillsboro, according to Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington Co. Sheriff's Office, the agency investigating the police involved shooting.

Greenscam: Scientific Mass Manipulation in Action

If the goal is to produce a dumb animal that will walk calmly into the slaughterhouse, then providing this animal with information would be grossly counterproductive.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Climate Research Unit of the University of East Anglia Recently, a large number of internal documents from the Climate Research Unit of the University of East Anglia were posted onto the internet by an anonymous source.

One of the documents from this collection of information is a short pamphlet put out by the “communications agency” (i.e. free-market ministry of propaganda) Futerra Sustainability Communications, which is headquartered in London and has offices in New York. Futerra, according to their website, specializes in propaganda focused on buzz words like “green,” “ethical,” “climate change,” and “corporate responsibility.”

Afghanistan, the Unlearned Lesson

The Russians were in Afghanistan for about nine years at great cost in blood and national wealth. Now Americans (and others, including Canada) are there trying to civilize the uncivilizable.

(CALGARY, Alberta) - Salem-News.com Unless you were born in Afghanistan and lived there all your life, you would certainly know about James Michener. After a December, 1979 invasion, by February, 1980, the Soviets were having their military adventure in Afghanistan. I was editor of the Airdrie Echo then.

This was before the internet and before detailed information (and misinformation) was at everyone’s fingertips. In an attempt to inform my readers, I published a review of James Michener’s 1963 book Caravans–a novel that took place in 1946 Afghanistan. Here’s my book review, unchanged, with a 2009 update.

Winter Storm and High Wind Warnings Blow into NorthWest

The National Weather Service has issued several warnings and advisories.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Winter Snow warning A Winter Storm Warning for snow and blowing snow has been issued for the South Washington and North and Central Oregon Cascade Mountains. The warning was announced at 8:42 p.m. Saturday, and remains in effect until 4:00 pm Sunday, as a new storm pushes in.

The snow will be heaviest after midnight. Snow showers will continue through most of the day Sunday, heaviest in the morning.

Rocky Point Area Man Dies in Single Vehicle Crash (PHOTOS)

The crash happened on Highway 140W near Lake of the Woods.

(KLAMATH FALLS) - Police say an 82-year old man died Saturday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle on Highway 140W in the Lake of the Woods Safety Corridor and crashed into a large tree.

OSP Sergeant Robert Fenner, says 82-year old Joe Lenox Ston of ethe Rocky Point area, west of Klamath Falls, was driving eastbound on Highway 140W near milepost 47, when he lost control of the vehicle on icy conditions and drove off the highway and rolled before striking a large tree.
