Two Die in Crash on Highway 101 South of Florence

Police aren't sure what caused an 18-year year old driver to lose control and cross into the oncoming lanes.

(FLORENCE, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Florence, Oregon 8-1-09 Police say two Florence-area residents died Friday afternoon on Highway 101 south of Florence when their small pickup lost control and was struck broadside. Two others received non-life threatening injuries in the crash that is still under investigation by Oregon State Police.

Two men in one vehicle were killed in the crash, police are not sure if they were wearing seat belts.

USC Military Social Work Program to Care for Returning Veterans

The USC School of Social Work program, the first of its kind at a major research university, garners $3.3 million in government funding.

(LOS ANGELES) - U.S. Army on the school`s new military social work program at USC The USC School of Social Work has created a specialization in military social work and veteran services to prepare social workers and other trained mental health professionals to help the nation's armed forces personnel, military veterans and their families manage the pressures of military life and post-war adjustments.

California Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard secured $3.3 million in congressionally directed funding for the program.

Oregon State Penitentiary Scene of Multiple Inmate Fight

"During the course of breaking up the fights, two staff received minor injuries requiring first aid. Several inmates received minor injuries requiring first aid..." - Jeanine Hohn, Oregon Department of Corrections

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, Oregon Corrections officials say a fight occurred between several inmates in A-block at the Oregon State Penitentiary at approximately 6:00 p.m. July 30th.

Jeanine Hohn with the Oregon Department of Corrections, says staff responded, broke up the fight and secured the involved inmates.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Phone dial The Salem Police Department would like to warn the public of a new scam that has recently been reported in our local area involving alleged unpaid loans.

The victims have then received phone calls at their business numbers from a male with an English/Middle Eastern accent identifying himself as Peter Richmond.

Foreclosure Rates in Salem Increase

During the past 12 months, from July 2008 to June 2009, there was a total of 3,532 foreclosure filings in Salem, or approximately 9.68 per day.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon foreclosure map Foreclosure rates in Salem have increased for the month of June over the same period last year, according to First American CoreLogic.

According to recent data from First American CoreLogic on foreclosures for the Salem area, the rate of foreclosures among outstanding mortgage loans is 1.60 percent for the month of June, an increase of 0.90 percentage points compared to June of 2008 when the rate was 0.70 percent.
