(EUGENE, Ore.) - Betsy Ross Political pandering is today particularly prevalent precisely where it should never appear without solid precedent taken from national, reliable non-political sources -- in open-dialog channels on the the Internet.

Its major damage to our American democracy is becoming so obviously dangerous that it is demanding probing examination by all of us deeply concerned about the consequences for a democracy determinedly built on principles of honesty, openness --and thus democracy.

Salem Woman Fatally Injured After Falling Off Motorcycle (PHOTOS)

The single vehicle crash happened on Highway 22, west of Santiam Pass Junction‏.

(SANTIAM PASS, Ore.) - Fatal motorcycle crash Police say a Salem-area woman died after she apparently fell off the motorcycle she was a passenger on as she and her husband traveled on Highway 22 west of the Santiam Junction.

Preliminary information indicates the operator noticed his wife slumping behind him and tried to hold on to her to keep her from falling off the motorcycle. Despite his attempt to keep her on, she fell off onto the highway.

One Person Killed in Crash Near Estacada

Oregon State Police and local emergency responders are on scene.

(ESTACADA, Ore.) - Fatal crash Oregon State Police troopers say they are on the scene of a fatal crash in Milo McIver State Park. This area is located along South Springwater Road near Estacada, near the park's boat ramp.

Troopers on the scene report a single vehicle off road into a tree. They say there is one confirmed fatality at the crash scene, along with other reported injuries.

Man Presumed Drowned After Falling From Sailboat

Two men entered the water, one was rescued.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Area east of Hayden Island Rescuers say two men jumped off a rented sailboat into the Columbia River to cool off around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, and only one was able to make it back to the sailboat. The other male is presumed drowned.

Marion County Investigators Seek Suspect in Woodburn Shooting

Anyone with information on the location of Paniagua-Angeles or his vehicle are asked to contact Detective Matt Hingston at (503) 540-8007.

(WOODBURN, Ore.) - 31-year old Ricardo Paniagua-Angele The Marion County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Friday, just after 10:00 p.m. at 12042 Carl Road outside of Woodburn.

Deputy District Attorney Jodi Bureta says the shooting resulted in the death of a 32-year old Woodburn man whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Marine Casualties Heighten in Afghanistan

The cost of the war in Afghanistan in terms of American lives is escalating.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com In Afghanistan, the Marines in particular have paid a heavy price in recent days, losing over half of the U.S. casualties in this report.

The average age of the fallen referenced here is 23.72. Florida lost two of its native sons, other states that these fallen servicemen hailed from include Tennessee, Oklahoma, Washington, Illinois, Virginia, Montana, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania.

Bicyclist Critically Injured in Collision with Fog Marker on Timberline Road

The woman was transported by LifeFlight to Oregon Health Sciences University.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Crash investigation A 22-year old woman was critically injured Saturday afternoon when she struck a highway fog marker pole while riding a bicycle near the top of Timberline Road.

The woman's name will be withheld while Oregon State Police troopers continue the investigation and attempt to locate next of kin.

AMBER Alert Issued for 13-Year Old California Girl

The suspect vehicle is a black Chevrolet Silverado with a California license plate number 8N84118.

(WHITTIER, Calif.) - Police say 13-year old Cynthia Irene Hernandez was taken by suspect, 45-year old Juan Cuella Hernand. The State of California issued an Amber Alert today after a girl was abducted late Friday, July 31 2009, in Whittier. The suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous.

13-year old Cynthia Irene Hernandez is a Hispanic female who stands five feet 11 inches tall. She weighs 240 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Investigators Seek Suspect in Union County Homicide Investigation

Investigators advise Cook should be considered armed and dangerous.

(LA GRANDE, Ore.) - 42-year old Gregory Alvin Cook of La Grande Investigators with the Union County Major Crimes Team have developed a suspect lead in the homicide of 51-year old Shannon Marie Sloan of Elgin.

Police say the suspect's whereabouts is unknown and investigators are asking for the public's help for information that will lead to his arrest.
