Man Killed in Train v. Pedestrian Crash

The man had been sitting in the middle of the railroad tracks with his back toward the train.

(SALEM, Ore.) - train crash Just before 7:00 a.m. this morning, an Amtrak train northbound at 34 mph struck a pedestrian approximately 250 yards north of Market Street NE.

When the engineer spotted him they put the train into emergency braking and sounded the horn, but the individual did not move and the train was unable to stop in time.

Waldport Man Killed in Head-On Crash North of Florence

About 8:46 a.m. there was a report of a two-vehicle, head-on collision on Highway 101 near milepost 174.

(FLORENCE, Ore.) - head on crash OSP Troopers and emergency crews responded to a head on crash Sunday morning about 14 miles north of Florence.

Police say a 2008 Honda CRV operated by 92-year old Eugene Earl Weigant, of Waldport, was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line striking a 1994 Chevrolet Imperial Van operated by 23-year old Tanner Dickinson, of Columbus, Ohio, head-on, according to the preliminary investigation. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage.

Search Suspended for Hiker in Mt Jefferson Wilderness

(DETROIT, Ore.) - mt jefferson After seven days of searching, the decision has been made to suspend the active search for missing hiker Riley Zickel. Mr. Zickel went missing after entering the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness area Wednesday, July 27th.

Mr. Zickel was last seen on the Pacific Crest Trail just north of Jefferson Park where he visited with another hiker along the trail. The decision to suspend the active search was made after exhausting all available leads.

Marion County Commissioners Push Marijuana Issues to November Ballot

Semi-Truck Tipped Over on Southbound Hwy 22 Off-Ramp

The off-ramp was closed for about 6 hours while the crash was cleaned up.

(SALEM, Ore.) - truck crash in Salem Shortly after 7:00 am this morning, Salem Police officers were dispatched to the off ramp from eastbound Highway 22 (Center Street Bridge) onto southbound Front St on a report of a semi-truck that had tipped over on the ramp.

Officers arrived to find a red 2016 semi-truck pulling a single trailer laying on its left side with the top of the trailer laying on the top of the east railing of the ramp.

Marijuana Robbery Leaves One Man Dead in North Salem

Search Continues for Overdue Hiker in the Jefferson Wilderness

Volunteers are searching for a Portland man, missing for nearly a full week now.

(DETROIT, Ore.) - Salem-News.com 21-year old Ryan Zickel is the overdue hiker, missing since last Wednesday. He arrived in the Jefferson Wilderness with the intent to explore the park and possibly summit Mt. Jefferson, and planned on staying only one night at Jefferson Park.

Mr. Zickel told family he intended to exit the park Thursday to meet friends for another hike in the Seattle area.
