The Oregon National Guard had been pushing for the funding for years, and was quick to praise the funding announcement.
(DALLAS, Ore.) -
The U.S. House of Representatives today approved $12.1 million to replace the Oregon National Guard’s Polk County Readiness Center, announced Congressman Kurt Schrader (D-OR) who requested the funding for the project. The funding was included in the Military Construction Appropriations bill that passed the House on Friday.
“This funding means badly needed construction jobs in the region” said Schrader. “But it’s also a critical part of our promise to take care of our brave soldiers and their families.”
Two soldiers, a Marine and a sailor are the casualties named in this report.

Two more casualties have been reported in Afghanistan. An Army Specialist with the 4th Infantry Division, and a Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command Sergeant, were killed in combat operations July 8th.
Two U.S. servicemembers, an Army Private from the 1st Cavalry Division in Iraq, and a Navy Aviation Ordnanceman Airman with the Combined Security Transition Command - Afghanistan, died of non-hostile causes.
Federal guards kept her from doctors, for days... until after she was dead. Something about the story is extremely fishy.

A settlement of $880,000 will be paid by the federal government, to the family of Vietnam War Photographer Roxanna Brown, for her death in a federal detention center at Seattle's SeaTac Airport on May 14th 2008.
Governor Ted Kulongoski and Major General Raymond F. Rees, The Adjutant General are scheduled to be in attendance at the ceremony.

Approximately 20 soldiers from the Second Rotation 2-641 Aviation commanded by LTC Christian Rees are returning to Oregon this evening following a six month tour of duty in Iraq.
Their mission in theater was to conduct flight missions required for battle command of theater operations, liaison among theater commands, transportation of supplies, equipment and personnel within the Iraq area of responsibility.

Accepts Governor’s appointment to chair Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision.

Upon announcement of her appointment by Governor Ted Kulongoski to the State Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision, State Senator Vicki Walker announced plans to submit her resignation to the Oregon Secretary of State effective Sunday, July 12th 11:59 p.m.
The former chair, Steven Powers, ended his term June 30th. Walker will begin work in the four-year term starting Monday, July 13th.
