Drug Trafficking Organization Dismantled: 33 in Custody

Police say that because of the magnitude of these investigations, they could not have been accomplished without the interagency cooperation at all levels.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Handcuffs A lengthy investigation into Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations in Washington County culminated in arrests last week. This group was suspected of importing Methamphetamine, Cocaine and Heroin into the Portland-Metro area.

This was a joint investigation with the Westside Interagency Narcotics Team (WIN-), Oregon Department of Justice (DOJ) and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Privatization in Alberta

Privatization of public interests are not necessarily bad but they usually are. The key question for a citizen to ask in each instance is: WHO BENEFITS?.

(CALGARY, Alberta) - Alberta, Calgary Private good, public bad is the standard cry of economic and political conservatives. They have been saying it so long, that over the last half century or so, they’ve framed the argument that even liberals have had to respond to. I don’t know anything about privatization issues in Oregon, but the actual experience here in Alberta may offer a lesson.

Up to 1993 the Alberta government controlled a lot of things for the benefit of Albertans. One was the Alberta Liquor Control Board (ALCB) which operated 202 liquor stores throughout the province.

Serious Scab Problems in Southern Wheat States

Fusarium Head Blight was “very prevalent” in wheat fields viewed by Virginia Tech extension plant pathologist Erik Stromberg, who said this is likely to be the worst it has been in 15 years.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Fusarium head blight disease  By the time the calendar flipped from May to June, Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) infection levels had reached very worrisome levels in several southern soft winter wheat states, according to university small grain specialists.

Commonly referred to as “scab,” the disease, caused by the fungus Fusarium graminearum, can produce significant yield losses, as well as serious grain quality issues due to the presence of the mycotoxin known as “DON” (deoxynivalenol).

Spring Chinook Fishery Opens on Powder River

Anglers are reminded to “ask first” before entering private lands and to check the 2009 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations for gear restrictions, legal angling times and other sport fishing regulations.

(LA GRANDE, Ore.) - Oregon Spring Chinook The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) plans to release approximately 200 spring chinook salmon into the Powder River to create a unique fishing opportunity. A May 30 to September 1 angling season has been established to harvest these fish.

The open area is from Hughes Lane Bridge near Baker City to Mason Dam. The daily bag limit is 2 spring chinook salmon.

She handled herself very appropriately and knew how to handle the situation. The end result was a text book happy ending.

`United Oregon` March Dominates the Weekend in Portland (AUDIO)

The march is Sunday in Portland at 1:00 p.m., beginning from the Eastbank Esplanade near SE Main. The rally will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Terry Schrunk Plaza.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ONS) - Salem-News.com Several thousand front-line workers and other Oregonians concerned about budget cuts affecting services, safety nets and infrastructure are taking to the streets of Portland Sunday. Roads will be blocked off to handle the crowds. SEIU Local 503 initially organized the rally to focus on public worker issues, and it quickly grew when people got word of the event.

Union member Phil Newton will emcee the rally. "It's encouraging because it's morphed from being a public employees' rally to being a get-together of various interests, like from AARP."

House Committee Approves Revenue Measures: Plan Calls for Protecting Core Services by Raising Revenue on Wealthiest Corporations and Households.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com The House Revenue Committee on Thursday approved two measures that begin to bring greater stability to Oregon’s tax system and help balance the state budget to protect core services including education, health care and public safety by modestly increasing taxes on Oregon’s most profitable corporations and wealthiest households.

House Bill 2649 and HB 3405 were both passed on to the Joint Ways and Means Committee, setting the stage for Ways and Means Co-Chairs to balance the state budget.
