Suspicious Death Under Investigation West of I-5 Near Salem

The man is identified as 27-year old Robert Ray Workman who has no known permanent address and was living at nearby transient camp in the park's vicinity.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Death Investigation Oregon State Police major crime detectives are investigating a suspicious death of a male who was found deceased Thursday morning in the vicinity of Cascade Gateway Park west of Interstate 5 in Salem.

Oregon State Police Spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says today at approximately 6:00 a.m. Salem police and firefighters responded to a report of a possible deceased male southwest of the Interstate 5 and Highway 22 interchange on the east edge of Cascade Gateway Park.

Oregon Trooper Arrests Man on Cocaine and Methamphetamine Charges

Police say the found approximately 2 ounces of methamphetamine, 1/4 lb. of cocaine, and nearly $1,450 in cash.

(CASCADES LOCKS, Ore.) - Cocaine, meth and cash An Oregon State Police traffic stop Tuesday in Cascade Locks led to the discovery and seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine and cash, according to OSP Lieutenant Patrick Ashmore.

He says Tuesday at approximately 11:00 p.m., an OSP senior trooper stopped a driver suspected of driving while intoxicated, in the Cascade Locks area.

UN Report Shows Israeli Checkpoints Continuing to Restricting Palestinian Movement

Israeli settlements erected in the West Bank since 1967, according to the report, are perhaps the most important factor driving the restrictions.

(GENEVA) - Palestinians wait in a queue at Beit Iba checkpoint in Gaza. Israeli obstacles continue to constrain the freedom of movement for Palestinians living in the West Bank, according to a new report by the United Nations humanitarian arm.

They say some measures implemented by Israel have eased traffic flow on some routes into the four main cities, but other actions have further controlled Palestinian access while easing the movement of Israeli settlers, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs report noted.

Man in Salem Park Shooting Dies From Injuries

Two others shot suffered non life-threatening gunshot wounds and remained hospitalized.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Victim at fatal shooting in Salem, Oregon 5-26-09 Salem Police say one of the victims in the shooting that occurred at Northgate Park on the afternoon of May 26th has died of his gunshot wounds.

Salem Police Lt. Dave Okada says the victim, Montez Bailey, was sitting on a park bench at the park along with 21-year old Skylar Hyland and 20-year old Cameron Carolino when the suspect walked up, had a brief conversation with them, then fired several gunshots.

Oregon House Passes Transportation Bill

Bill Will Create 4,600 Jobs Annually and Reduce Congestion at Key Bottlenecks

Salem-News.com photo by Bonnie King The Oregon House on Wednesday passed HB 2001 – the Jobs and Transportation Act – paving the way for thousands of new construction jobs to reduce congestion, improve safety, build new multi-modal projects across the state and vastly improve freight mobility. The final vote on the House floor was 38-22.

House Speaker Dave Hunt said the project would create 4,600 jobs that would be sustained for a decade and bring long term benefits for communities across Oregon.

Sheriff Goes Back to the Beginning in Basic Police School

The agency that trains police in Oregon can grant a waiver if the applicant "has current knowledge and skills…" , but veteran cop Bob Skipper was sent back to square one.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Sheriff Sheriff at the range Multnomah Sheriff Bob Skipper is preparing to go back to the four-month Basic Police Recruit Academy, beginning June 22nd 2009.

Lt. Mary Lindstrand, Public Information Officer with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, says that in preparation, Sheriff Skipper has been increasing his physical fitness routines, going through firearms qualifications and cutting down on fast food.
