Oregon`s AG Announces $655,000 Grant to Fight Internet Sex Predators

The federal stimulus grant will save funding for the Department of Justice’s Internet Crimes Against Child unit.

Senate Extends Period of Product Liability for Oregon Consumers

SB 284 increases the statute of ultimate repose, or SOUR, to 10 years.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon capitol by air This Senate passed legislation this morning that keeps courtroom doors open for consumers harmed by dangerously defective products that are greater than 8 years old.

SB 284 increases the statute of ultimate repose – age of a defective product – for product liability actions from its current limit of 8 years to 10 years.

Three Reportedly Shot in Salem Park (VIDEO)

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 16 to 18 years of age, with short black close cut hair, wearing a light colored shirt, long blue shorts and carrying a black backpack.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Shooting investigation Salem Police responded to a shooting today at Northgate Park, near the end of Fairhaven Ave. The report of the shooting came in just after 4:00 p.m.

The victims appear to be three minors. Unconfirmed reports at the scene indicate that one victim was shot in the arm, one was shot in the leg and one was reportedly shot in the head.

Oregon Man Escapes Submerging Truck

The driver escaped his submerging pickup and was helped out of the water by an unidentified witness. He had minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Oakridge Fire Department personnel.

(OAKRIDGE, Ore.) - Oakridge area crash scene in Oregon 5-25-09 Police say an Oakridge-area man escaped serious injury Tuesday morning after falling asleep and losing control of his pickup on Highway 58 about ten miles west of Oakridge.

"The man escaped from his submerging pickup after it went off the highway and into Lookout Point Reservoir," Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Erich Schermerhorn said.

Gas Prices Edge Higher to Kick Off Summer Driving Season

Memorial Day has come and gone, and pump prices are still edging up. Oregon's average for regular unleaded gains eight cents in the past week to $2.51 while the national average jumps up 11 cents to $2.43. Still, prices are about a buck-fifty a gallon less than a year ago.

Remembering Bloody Tarawa

Leon Cooper, former Navy Ensign and amphibian boat commander, not only remembers the battle in November 1943, but is now fighting to clean-up the battlefield to make it a fit memorial for thousands who died there.

(Somerdale, N.J.) - Marines at Bloody Tarawa Garbage now litters the beaches on Betio Island in the Tarawa atoll, one of the bloodiest battles fought by Marines in WW II.

The first amphibious assault against fortified positions in the Pacific War, it would serve as a model and lessons learned for future assaults. The 2nd Marine Division paid the price for the lessons.
