Suspect Eludes Salem Officers

A man involved in a brief police chase in Salem remains at large.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Salem Police attempted a simple traffic stop on a silver 2000 Dodge Durango last night at 11:21 p.m. on Commercial Street at Boone Road, when the suspect reportedly fled into the parking lot behind subway.

Sgt Andrew Connolly with Salem Police says the suspect bailed out on foot leaving a hand gun on the passenger seat.

Police quickly established a perimeter and began searching for the suspect using police dogs.

Former Guantanamo Bay Guards Reveal Torture and Abuse

They say it hasn't been easy to live with what they were part of, and that is why they have come clean.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Guantanamo Bay graffiti Former Guantanamo Bay military guards have come forward in recent weeks and months with stories about torture and abuse, and they are logged on YouTube and available for anyone to see. The two soldiers say it has been a healing experience to come forward.

In the first video a former Guantanamo Bay guard who served in the U.S. Army, tells Press TV that the United States must stop holding prisoners without charge or trial.

Two California Soldiers Killed in Iraq

Specialist Jeremiah P. McCleery, 24, of Portola, California and Specialist Jake R. Velloza, 22, of Inverness, California, were killed fighting in Iraq May 2nd.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Iraq Casualties A few hours ago we reported the deaths of two soldiers in Afghanistan and the situation involving a third who is missing in action.

Now the federal government announces the death of two more soldiers who died fighting in Mosul, Iraq which has been an active area in recent weeks and months.

Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash on Highway 730 near Irrigon‏ (PHOTOS)

Troopers are still in the process of investigating the crash and are trying to determine why the Plymouth van left the roadway.

(IRRIGON, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Irrigon, Oregon One person was killed and three others seriously injured in a single vehicle rollover crash on Highway 730 near Irrigon, Oregon early Monday morning.

Oregon State Police Sergeant Mike Turner says today at approximately 5:50 a.m., a green Plymouth Voyager van operated by 26-year old Gina Perez of Boardman, Oregon was westbound on Highway 730 at milepost 171 when it left the roadway and overturned at least one time.

Two Soldiers Killed and One Missing in Action in Afghanistan (UPDATE)

The soldier who is missing, William Vile, is assigned to the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Department of Defense reports the death of two soldiers in Afghanistan, and one soldier as Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown (DUSTWUN). This is the military's new and somewhat confusing term for Missing in Action.

The action leading the the death of the two soldiers and the disappearance of the other, occurred May 1 near the village of Nishagam, in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, where all three were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

2009 Presidential Scholars Announced

Oregon scholars hail from Corvallis, Portland and West Linn.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Graduate cap and tassle U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced the selection of 141 outstanding high school seniors as the 2009 Presidential Scholars. The students have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, and community service.

Presidential scholars will be honored for their accomplishments in Washington D.C., tentatively scheduled from June 20-24.

(GRESHAM, Ore.) - Photos by Q Madp A dedication ceremony to honor those who have served in the armed forces, fire, and police services was held Saturday in Gresham, at the city's special Heroes Memorial on East Powell Boulevard and SE Roberts Avenue.

The event was organized by the Heroes Memorial and Tribute Task Force, Chief Craig Junginger and the Gresham Police Department. They issued the invite to citizens wishing to support the men and women who serve this nation.

California Issues AMBER Alert for 3-Year Old Boy

Anyone with information is asked to call the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department or dial 911.

(SAN BERNADINO, Calif.) - 3-year old Briant Rodriguez The state of California issued an Amber alert early this morning after police say the boy was abducted at gunpoint from his home in San Bernardino on Sunday.

"The suspects forcibly entered the boy's home and tied up his mother and four other children before ransacking the house and stealing money and property. Both suspects are armed with handguns and are considered dangerous," police in San Bernadino said.
