Willamina Man Dies in Crash on Highway 18 West of McMinnville

Police say the driver tried to correct his error and steer back onto the highway when he lost control causing the pickup to roll.

(McMINNVILLE, Ore.) - Fatal crash near McMinnville, Oregon 4-14-09 Police say a 70-year old Willamina man died this afternoon when the pickup he was driving lost control on Highway 18 about sixteen miles west of McMinnville.

According to Oregon State Police Sergeant Brad Hessel, today at approximately 12:35 p.m., Paul Frederick Boehler was operating a 1987 Ford F250 pickup eastbound on Highway 18 near milepost 25 attempting to negotiate a left curve when the vehicle drifted off onto the shoulder.

Senate Democrats Vote for Increased Penalties Against Environmental Polluters

Senate Bill 105 raises fines for first time in 36 years.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon capitol Senate Democrats claimed a victory for environmental protection this morning by voting for Senate Bill 105, 16-13. For most violations, SB 105 increases the maximum penalty against polluters from $10,000 to $25,000 per violation, per day.

The bill also considerably increases fines against water polluters and for violations that cause extreme hazard to public health or the environment. Current rates were set in 1973 and have not been adjusted since.

Somali Pirates Vow Revenge for Deaths

The Navy was almost certainly justified in shooting the pirates, and it is also certain that the decision to do that will compound the difficulty for existing pirate hostages.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Activists in Africa with EcoTerra, who have been working with the Somali pirate issue for years, are dismayed over the recent gunning down of the teenage pirates who had held an American sea captain hostage in a lifeboat that was out of gas and dead in the water.

As it turns out, the pirates were killed while their boat was in tow by a U.S. Navy ship. They had willingly gone under tow when the Navy SEAL team opened fire on them.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Military suicide I listened to Katy Couric's story about excessive and worrisome Army suicides on Thursday, April 8th, on CBS. This did not surprise me.

I was a Combat Infantryman, point man, Battalion scout and forward observer in the Infantry during WWII for about two months. When I tell this to fellow Infantry battle veterans, they usually say, "No, you weren't."
