Oregon Unions Step Up to Help Laid-Off Workers

The AFL-CIO meeting is today, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Central Electrical Training Center, Tangent, Oregon.

(TANGENT, Ore.) - Workers in America Oregon's labor union locals want to do more to help their members and others in their communities who have been laid off.

AFL-CIO leaders from around the state met today to trade ideas and information, such as how to file for unemployment insurance and what emergency resources exist for people who need rent money or food.

Coast Guard Assists Disabled Vessel off Oregon Coast

There are no reported injuries at this time, and no information as to the cause of the flooding.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Coast Guard helicopter The Coast Guard has responded to the distressed fishing vessel Master Chris after reports that it is taking on water off the Coast of Yaquina Bay, Ore., Sunday.

Motor lifeboats from Depoe Bay and Yaquina Bay, Ore., as well as a rescue helicopter from Northbend, Ore., are on scene with the vessel at this time.

Citizen Leads OSP Troopers to Driver Suspected in Hit & Run Near Tualatin

The 911 caller reportedly agreed to follow the car so police could intercept it, and they caught up with the driver at Washington Square Mall.

(TUALATIN) - Victim`s car in hit and run incident on I-5 in Oregon, 4-12-09 An Albany-area man is in custody Saturday evening on multiple charges related to a hit and run injury crash on Interstate 5 near Tualatin.

The arrest was helped by a citizen who followed the suspect to Washington Square Mall where he was contacted by troopers as he reportedly tried to get a ride out of the parking lot.

DUII Injury Crash Sends Vancouver Woman to Hospital and Leads to Charges

Traffic on Highway 224 at the scene was down to one lane for an hour.

(CARVER, Ore.) - DUII involved crash in Carver, Oregon 4-12-09 Oregon State Police say they cited a Vancouver, Washington woman for DUII Saturday evening after the car she was driving flipped onto its top on Highway 224 east of Carver, leaving her injured.

OSP Trooper Justin Lane says preliminary information indicates that 46-year old Robyn Renee Thompson's blood alcohol level was more than 4 times the legal .08 limit.

American Sea Captain Escapes Pirates and is Safe

U.S. politicians and media pundits remain intent on claiming that the Somali's aren't pirates, as they plunder riches from innocent people in ships on the high seas and kidnap captains in lifeboats.

(MOMBASA, Kenya) - Captain Richard Phillips Captain Richard Phillips is a free man. He's the ship captain who was kidnapped last week by Somali pirates. Three of the teenage pirates who were holding Phillips in a lifeboat were killed and a fourth was captured.

Phillips reportedly escaped after jumping overboard. According to CNN, the rescue operation was conducted while one pirate was aboard the USS Bainbridge for negotiations on Phillips' release.

Dallas Man Dies in Overnight Motorcycle Crash

Investigators say speed may have been a factor in the crash but the investigation is on-going at this time.

(PERRYDALE, Ore.) - Death investigation Polk County Sheriff's deputies say a man died in a motorcycle crash on Perrydale Road near the Orchard Knob Road intersection this morning at 4:30 a.m.

Polk County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dean Bender, says they received a missing person's report at approximately 1:38 a.m. from the Dallas Police Department, regarding a friend who borrowed a motorcycle earlier in the evening but failed to return.

Police confirmed that it's unusual for the suspect in a crime like this to be a woman, statistically.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Sandra Cantu~R.I.P. The suspect in the disappearance and Murder of eight-year old Sandra Cantu in Tracy, California is a Sunday school teacher who lives in the same mobile park, and whose daughter had played with Sandra before.

Police say 28-year-old Melissa Huckaby was arrested just before midnight Friday on charges of Kidnapping and Murder.

One utterly unrealistic scene is complimented by more believable portrayals of gangland LA, aka the "Southland" - a term used regularly by LA news anchors.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Southland tv show cast The new NBC police drama "Southland" debuted last week, and I have to admit I was looking forward to it.

The new show by the creators of "ER" definitely was a fast moving and exciting crime drama that I expect will be around for a long time. Well-written and at times unrealistic, it is typical Hollywood but more edgy and never slow.
