ODFW Offers Tips for Avoiding Problems With Bears

A wildlife biologist says a few precautions can prevent most of the problems that people have with bears.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Spring is a time of renewal in Oregon and around the Pacific Northwest. It is also the time of year when bears wake up from their long winter naps and come out of their dens to look for food.

Unfortunately, many of these animals get themselves into trouble by looking for meals in all the wrong places – porches, sheds, garages, garbage cans, barbecues, kennels and bird feeders, where they can become a nuisance … or worse.

Salem Police Warn of Debit Card Scam

Salem Police want like to remind the public that Financial Institutions will never send a text, e-mail or phone message asking for information they already have.

(SALEM, Ore.) - The Salem Police Department is warning the public of a scam text message that has been sent to numerous people advising that their debit card has been frozen and requesting that they call a phone number to have it reinstated.

There are at least 40 known instances of people who have received telephone text messages stating "We apologize to inform you that we have locked your debit card. For fast reactivation please call us at 971-404-2986." This phone number is not in service at this time.

Airplane Crashes Near Cove, Oregon

The crash happened near Cove in Eastern Oregon, near Union.

(COVE, Ore.) - Oregon State Police and local emergency responders are on scene of a small plane crash with one confirmed injury near Cove.

Initial information indicates there was only one person on the plane. That person was reportedly taken by a private vehicle to an area hospital.
