Record Number of Projects Planned for Volunteers in Oregon

Oregonians can sign up now to celebrate the sesquicentennial.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon volunteers Nearly 600 projects are scheduled in May for Take Care of Oregon Days, one of six signature events commemorating 150 years of statehood.

“Our goal was to make this the largest volunteer project in the state’s history,” said Mary Oberst, Oregon’s First Lady and Chair of the Board of Oregon 150.

British Envoy Damns US Afghan Drug Effort

President Barack Obama named Mr Holbrooke as his special envoy for the two countries shortly after taking office in January.

(LONDON ) - British Envoy Richard Holbrooke US efforts to eradicate opium poppy crops in Afghanistan have been "wasteful and ineffective", the US envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan says.

Richard Holbrooke said the $800m a year the US was spending on counter-narcotics would be better used in supporting Afghan farmers.

Clackamas County Raids See Five Arrested For Drug Dealing

A total of 16 law-enforcement personnel participated in the execution of the two warrants.

(OREGON CITY) - Handcuffs The Clackamas County Inter-agency Task Force (CCITF) arrested five individuals Wednesday who are believed to bhe responsible for extensive drug-dealing activity in the Oregon City area.

Jim Strovink, Detective with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, says just after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, CCITF members, accompanied by Oregon City Police, simultaneously executed search warrants at two residences in Oregon City.

CAUSA joins with Immigrant Rights and Education Advocates from across the nation in calling on Congress to swiftly pass the DREAM Act.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Immigrants on U.S./Mexico border Today, Representatives Howard Berman (D-CA) and Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL) and Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Richard Lugar (R-IN) announced the reintroduction of "Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate.

They were joined in support by a group of Senators and Representatives from both sides of the aisle.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem Officer Steve Smith`s crash A Salem Police Canine Officer sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in a collision with a semi truck at about 5:15 a.m. this morning.

Officer Steve Smith was driving southbound in the left lane of Commercial St SE near Owens Street SE when his vehicle was struck by the semi truck.

Federal Stimulus Package Increases Food Stamp Benefits

Lawmakers say the changes will also boost the local economy.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Homeless man in Salem, Oregon Oregonians will soon have increased food benefits under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which calls for a more than 13 percent increase in federal food stamp benefits.

Governor Ted Kulongoski says the increase helps in two ways. The added benefits will help people who are feeling the impact of the economy and also help local communities by putting more money into the local economy.

Pit Bull Attacks Boy in Front of Beaverton International School

According to Washington County Animal Control, this is the third documented bite from the same dog.

(ALOHA, Ore.) - Pit bull attack Police say a ten-year old boy was bitten today while riding his two-wheeled "razor" on a sidewalk in Aloha. A dog reportedly came from across the street and attacked the boy at about 1:10 p.m.

His injuries are not life threatening and the dog has been quarantined, according to Sgt. David Thompson with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
