Ambivalence and La Audiencia

There is a need to look backward to prevent in the future the abuses of the past.

(PASO ROBLES, Calif.) - Salem-News.com “No one is above the law,” said Barack Obama at his first News Conference on February 9th, but then followed up by saying that as President he prefers to move ahead, not look back.

I find this ambivalence a bit disturbing.

Marinol, Like Marijuana, MAY Cause Testicular Cancer

Testicular cancer has increased 3 to 6 percent in European related males.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Marinol A very interesting recent article in the medical journal Cancer, Feb. 9, 2009 indicates that THC, the most active ingredient in cannabis/marijuana (ca 95%) causes an increase in non-seminoma cancers in cannabis smokers. The study was based on the fact that THC stimulates receptors in the Testes.

Parents Reminded to Get Kids Immunized Soon

An upcoming deadline of February 18th doesn't leave much time.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Immunizations Public health officials are advising parents that children won’t be able to go to school or child care starting Feb. 18 if their records on file show that they are missing immunizations.

State law requires that all children in public and private schools, pre-schools, Head Start and certified child care facilities be up-to-date on their immunizations, or have a religious or medical exemption.

Car Struck by Train in Clackamas County Near Canemah (PHOTOS)

The man was not trapped, and Clackamas Fire crews were able to assist him out of the vehicle and onto a backboard.

(CANEMAH, Ore.) - Car versus train crash It sounds like a frustrating experience. A 78-year old man somehow got his car stuck on the railroad track that passes through Canemah, which is south of Oregon City along Hwy 99.

Around 7:24 p.m., the man's car was struck by a train as he sat at the wheel, according to Steve McAdoo with Clackamas Fire District #1.

School Library Accomodates Stayton Town Hall Meeting

A small Oregon town moves forward with business.

(STAYTON, Ore.) - Stayton High School The Stayton High School library was more than a room full of books, computers and teenagers looking for a place to study and meet friends Tuesday night.

The meeting got underway at 6:30 PM and by then, the only persons in the library were Mayor Gerry Aboud and city councilors Catherine Hemshorne, Don Walters, James Loftus, Scott Vigil and Steve Frank, and they presided over the first of two town hall meetings, this being the first.

Jeremy died in the Calderon Hospital Intensive Care Unit, where he was surrounded by family and friends.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Jeremy Lusk, American superstar freestyle motocross rider Jeremy Lusk, 24, died Tuesday, days after a motorcycle jump of over 100 feet went wrong.


Fatally injured from a head injury Saturday night, Jeremy Lusk passed away tonight at approximately 11:03 p.m. due to complications from the crash sustained Saturday evening in Costa Rica, the group DirtNewz.com reports.

Black Ice Alert for Tonight and Tomorrow Morning

Black ice is treacherous because it is almost invisible to the naked eye. It is ice that remains on roadways that do not get direct sunlight.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Police light A warm frontal system gave the Portland metropolitan area a mix of snow and rain this morning and afternoon. Snow and rain showers may continue on and off through the rest of the day.

Accumulations of snow are expected to be light, with more accumulations in the higher elevations. Once the snows end, travelers are advised of the potential for black ice tonight and tomorrow morning.

OSP Seizes Cash and Opium in Salem Traffic Stop

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the OSP Drug Enforcement Section.

(SALEM, Ore.) - 56-year old David Eyvaz Saee of Bothell, Washington An Oregon State Police traffic stop in the Salem area last Friday morning led to the arrest of a Washington man for posessing approximately 2 ounces of opium and more than $400,000 in US currency.

On February 6, 2009 at approximately 9:52 a.m., an OSP sergeant stopped a rented 2009 Nissan Xterra sport utility vehicle southbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 254 occupied by two individuals for a speed-related traffic violation.
