Critical Injury Traffic Crash - Highway 20 near Toledo (PHOTO SERIES)

Highway 20 was closed for about three hours with a detour established before being opened to one lane. All lanes were opened about 2:45 p.m.

(TOLEDO, Ore.) - Crash near Toledo, Oregon 2-10-09 A Lincoln City-area woman was critically injured and three others received minor injuries Tuesday morning when her vehicle collided with a commercial truck on Highway 20 near Toledo.

According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Sergeant Justin McGladrey, Tuesday at approximately 5:32 a.m. a 2005 Jeep Cherokee driven by 62-year old Michael F. Meyer of Lincoln City, was eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 9 when it lost control on the icy highway.

Police Bomb Tech Issues Warning About Grenade Fuses in Columbia River

(UMATILLA, Ore.) - grenade fuse Oregon State Police (OSP) is warning the public of a potential danger involving a bag of grenade fuses reportedly thrown into the Columbia River from the Interstate 82 Bridge.

Explosive technicians warn that the potentially explosive fuses possibly could harm someone if found and handled inappropriately.

Guard Home Vigil Dismantled by Oregon State Police

Despite the setback, Darr and Camp Homebound have renewed their presence on the Capitol steps complete with new signs.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Michelle Darr after a meeting with state officials several weeks ago Anti-war activists say that in the wee hours of morning on Sunday, February 8th, an Oregon State Trooper seized and destroyed signs protesting the upcoming deployment of the Oregon National Guard, including a memorial set up for a fallen Guard soldier.

Since November 1st, 2009, Michele Darr; a Corvallis mother of 6; has been fasting and maintaining a 24-hour presence on the steps of the Oregon State Capitol building in Salem bringing awareness to the massive upcoming deployment of the Oregon National Guard.

Head Start/Senate Stimulus Vote - NHSA Urges Conferees to Go with $2.1 Billion House Level‏

Effort to zero out Head Start funds defeated in Senate, But House version is preferred.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Head Start The National Head Start Association (NHSA) issued the following statement today via NHSA Board Chairperson Ron Herndon, who also is the director of the Albina Head Start program in Portland, Oregon.

“While we recognize that the Senate included just over $1 billion for Head Start in the economic stimulus bill it passed, we urge the House-Senate conferees to retain the House mark of $ 2.1 billion..."

Oregon Gas Prices Edge Up Over the $2 Mark

Both national and state averages have jumped up about 14 cents in the past month.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Gas pump Oregon's average for regular unleaded is now more than $2 a gallon, and the national average is close behind. Oregon's average jumps up nine cents in the past week to $2.05, while the national average increases four cents to $1.93. Both averages are up about 14 cents in the past month.

AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says, "As pump prices rise, the cost of crude oil is still in the basement at about $40 per barrel. There's been a disconnect between oil and gas prices since the start of 2009 as U.S. refiners processed less crude oil and slashed their gasoline output."

TCE-Related Toxic Waste in Irvine Much Worse Than Previously Revealed

A plume of the highly toxic chemical trichloroethylene that originated from the El Toro Marine base, has migrated beneath most of Irvine.

(IRVINE, Calif.) - Salem-News.com Salem-News.com began a series of reports in May of 2008 on the toxic waste contamination of the now-closed El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Irvine, California.
