UN Secretary General Sees Gaza Devastation

Health care, food distribution, water and sanitation were gradually improving, although sewage was still bubbling up on the streets in some northern areas, posing a potential health hazard.

(GAZA) - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited the war-shattered Gaza Strip today to demonstrate solidarity with the population and assure them of the full support of the United Nations and the international community.

“I am just appalled,” he said on visiting the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) compound that was bombed by Israel last week.

“It is an outrageous and totally unacceptable attack against the United Nations,” he added, reiterating his call for a full investigation and to make those responsible accountable.

Crude Prices Fall while Gas Prices Keep Climbing

As a new U.S. president begins his term, there seems to be a disconnect between oil and gas prices. Crude oil has been hovering below $40 per barrel, yet we've seen pump prices increase. In fact, our Oregon average is up 23 cents in the past month to $1.96 a gallon.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Oregon gas prices Oregon AAA's Marie Dodds says gas prices seem to be defying gravity as they continue to rise, even though crude prices have been hovering below $40 per barrel.

Last Friday, crude closed at $34.78, the lowest price since April 2005, when the nationwide average for regular unleaded was $1.76 per gallon. The national average now is $1.84, up five cents in the past week. Oregon's average increases four cents to $1.96.

Obama Becomes 44th U.S. President (VIDEO)

Investigators Seeking Pursuit Suspect Who Rammed Patrol Vehicle

The vehicle that was rammed is from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Smashed Clackamas Sheriff vehicle A Clackamas County deputy avoided injury Saturday night when a suspect in a Chevy Blazer rammed his patrol vehicle.

Clackamas Sheriff Spokesman Detective Jim Strovink, says it began Saturday evening at 10:19 PM, when a Clackamas County Sheriff's Patrol deputy, accompanied by his canine partner "Nero" attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a white, Chevrolet, Blazer, with one male occupant; which, this deputy reports seeing traveling southbound on Hwy 214, at Union School Road - operating this vehicle with no license plate lights, no license plates and no temporary permit displayed.

Oregonians Turn Out for Service of Major Thomas Egan (VIDEO)

Thomas Egan had been living alone and without a roof over his head when he died. He had friends and at least one distant relative, but this vet passed away as a forgotten man.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Memorial for Maj. Thomas L. Egan ret. Maj Thomas L. Egan was a retired Oregon National Guard officer who the world seemed to forget, and then remember, but just a little too late. The 60-year old veteran was found in mid-December frozen to death on a Eugene, Oregon sidewalk, near the corner of West First Avenue and Blair Boulevard.

This veteran was remembered and honored Saturday at the Oregon Guard Armory in Eugene at 1:30 PM. One of the people sure to attend events like this is Q Madp of IraqWarHeroes.org.

Coast Guard Airlifts Crewman 150 Miles Offshore (VIDEO)

The Coast Guard conducted a medevac of a crewmember off the 623-foot container ship Dapenghai 150 miles west from the entrance of the Columbia River Saturday.

(SEATTLE) - Crewman being airlifted from the 623-foot container ship Dapenghai In this video released by the Coast Guard, an HH-60 helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria, Ore., conducts a medevac of a crewmember off the 623-foot container ship Dapenghai 150 miles west from the entrance of the Columbia River. The rescue was completed Saturday, Jan. 17th 2009.

Officials say the rescue helicopter crew transported the crewmember to an awaiting Life Flight helicopter crew at Astoria Regional Airport.

Around 8:30 AM Saturday, the Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., launched an HH-60 rescue helicopter crew to the scene, after receiving a report of a 36-year-old male crewmember suffering a possible stroke.
