(Salem) - Benny and Sid #28 Change brings sadness. Sadness for the loss of what was good and strong. I do not refer to the end of the term of George W. Bush. Very few are sorry to see him go, although as many more believe it is imperative that he be brought to justice if for no other reason than war crimes. Instead I refer to the recent passing of many great artists of the 20th century. Men who influenced my way of thinking. Men without whom I wouldn't be the person I am today.

Obama Inauguration Crowd Numbers Estimated by IHS Jane`s and GeoEye

Not counting 240,000 people in the designated ticketholder areas, there were between 1.031 million and 1.411 million people present.

(LONDON) - Crowd at President Obama`s Inauguration IHS Jane’s has finalized the estimation of the crowd count at President Barack Obama’s inaugural event.

The methodology involved taking precise geospatial measurements of 71 different sectors over the Capitol in advance of the event, then analyzing the GeoEye-1 satellite image acquired at 11:19 AM on January 20th 2009.

The imagery was evaluated to determine crowd density at the event, which ranged from .1 to 5 people per square meter. After establishing the number of people in each predetmined sector, all the areas were added together to produce a final estimate.

Protests were few during this Presidential Inauguration; but numerous when the same occasion was marked for George W. Bush.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Today`s Presidential Inauguration The whole world took a step forward today with the Inauguration of the new President of the United States, Barack Obama. The 44th President of the United States is as radically progressive as the last President was militaristic.

Shortly after taking office today, Obama ordered prosecutors to freeze all the cases currently pending at Guantanamo Bay for 120 days. They are expected to approve the request; that includes a list of several people that the Bush Administration says were part of the 911 conspiracy against the United States.

Pit Bulls Running Loose in Keizer Neighborhood Kill Small Dog

Police say the pit bull's owners cooperated with the investigation and said they understood why they were being cited for this offense.

(KEIZER, Ore.) - Pit Bull attack Keizer Police say a small dog was killed by two pit bulls running at large today on Chehalis Drive North. Keizer Police Captain Jeff Kuhns says officers responded to the location after receiving a call from Maria Parocua, who reported her dog, a male two-month old Pomeranian, was just killed by another dog that was described as a pit-bull.

"Officers were told there were actually two pit-bulls that were still running at large in the neighborhood. Officers arrived on scene and were able to back the two pit-bulls into a fenced area where it appeared they belonged," Kuhns said.

This residence Kuhns said, is located at 5387 Chehalis Drive North.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland prostitutes The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Resource and Analysis Unit has just published two new reports on women and crime in the County.

The first report is entitled, 'Prostitution and Drugs in Portland' and is a review of the correlation between prostitution, drug arrests and the impact on our corrections system before, during and after the advent of the drug and prostitution free zones.

This report also reviews literature on drugs and prostitution.

Drowning Victim Identified

The man's body was discovered just over a week ago.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Death Investigation Family members of a drowning victim whose body was discivered in January, were contacted and have identified the body as that of 23-year old Stephen Luis Shaver.

Stephen Shaver's remains were located by the Marion County Sheriff's Office on January 10th 2009, when they responded to a report of a body found along the bank of the North Fork River at the North Fork County Park.

Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office, says when deputies arrived, it appeared the body had been in the water for some time and it was difficult to make an immediate identification.

Sailboat Runs Aground on Oregon Coast (PHOTOS)

There is approximately 50 gallons of fuel still onboard the sailing vessel.

(SEATTLE) - The Coast Guard will issue an Administrative Order to the owner of the 40-foot sailing vessel Gwalchavad that ran aground on Sand Island, Oregon, January 13th. The order directs the owner to remove the vessel.

The Gwalchavad was discovered aground Thursday by personnel from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, Washington.

The Coast Guard says the owner of the vessel declined Coast Guard assistance and stated he would find an alternate way to remove the vessel.

Death of 14-Year Old Lebanon Boy Was Probably Accidental

The case remains open pending additional interviews with witnesses and the results of the toxicological examination.

(LEBANON, Ore.) - Death investigation Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller reports a medical examiner has ruled the death of a 14 year old Lebanon boy as accidental.

Sunday, at about 12:30 PM, neighborhood children who were playing hide and seek discovered the body of Quentin Alexander Thacker in a large vacant lot at the intersection of 9th and C Streets in Lebanon. His bicycle was found nearby.

The investigation by Linn County Sheriff's detectives revealed that Mr. Thacker had fallen face down into a drainage ditch.

(SALEM, Ore.) - depressed unemployed man sitting on steps Following news of skyrocketing unemployment rates in Oregon over the last six months, Senate Democrats plan to examine options for expanding the number of out-of-work Oregonians covered by unemployment insurance.

Earlier today the Oregon Employment Department reported that the state’s unemployment rate rose to 9.0%, a 1 percent increase from the last employment report released December 15th, 2008.
