The notion of marijuana legalization making the top ten list for Obama's transistion team has generated amazing Web traffic for Salem-News.com, indicating that the subject is a very serious one among today's Americans.
(WASHINGTON D.C.) -
With just four days until the Inauguration, Americans are poised to see how and what the most unique president in U.S. history will do once he takes office.
Obama's Transistion Team says the country is alight with excitement, not just about the arrival of Barack Obama in the White House but also for the beginning of a new era of civic engagement.
"We've tapped into this energy with our Ideas for Change in America, and today we held a press event at the National Press Club in Washington DC to announce the winners of the competition", the team reported.
Josephine County Man Arrested Following Standoff and Shots Fired at OSP SWAT Team
(GRANTS PASS, Ore.) -
A Josephine County-area man was arrested on multiple charges Friday morning related to an investigation initiated by the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement team.
The arrest followed a brief standoff with the Oregon State Police SWAT team during which the man fired in the direction of SWAT members who responded with chemical munitions and subsequently deployed the use of a taser to arrest the armed man.
“It’s hard to find the right words for the real awfulness of what is happening in Gaza currently,”- The UN's John Holmes
(GAZA) -
The first Israeli shell, from a tank or artillery, crashed into the United Nations main centre in Gaza City 10:00 AM local time Thursday, after 700 Palestinians fleeing intense fighting crowded into the compound.
“Before the direct strike, we were told, ‘yes we’ve registered that the shrapnel’s coming into your compound, we know the dangers, we’ve informed the operational people on the ground, don’t worry, you won’t be hit’,” the UN's John Ging, told a news conference in New York, speaking by video link from ground zero.
After the strike on the 20th day of the Israeli offensive launched with the stated aim of ending Hamas rocket attacks into Israel, the Agency, which supplies aid to 750,000 Palestinian refugees in Gaza, half the total population, redoubled its liaison efforts.

Gran Torino and Clint Eastwood have put together one of the best depictions of War Veteran PTSD.
For my fellow combat PTSD Veterans tell non-victims such as rear-echelon sob’s this movie is a good example of what PTSD is! Clint shows survivor guilt, paranoia, total irascibility, hate of all enemies and even a death wish which are all symptoms of PTSD.
For his survivor guilt he earned a Silver Star Medal as the survivor of an Infantry attack on an enemy strong point in the Korean War. He was presumably a Veteran of 2 or 3 tours. His survival is hard to believe.
The best rated ideas will be put into an official briefing book and hand delivered to the new President after he is sworn in.

The group Americans for Safe Access says that if President-elect Barack Obama has done one thing so far, he has given citizens a chance to tell him how we feel.
George Pappas with Americans for Safe Access said, "This is our chance to do it, to call him out, to tell him he MUST change federal policy on medical cannabis because people are suffering and it needs to stop!"
Marine veterans and dependents asked for assistance from ATSDR. Government agency cites lack of information and sampling data, despite evidence of TCE in base wells and El Toro engineering drawing showing wells part of the water distribution system after the award of an early municipal water services contract.
(SOMERDALE, N.J.) -
This is the first report in addressing the possible contamination of former MCAS El Toro’s base wells. Future stories will address possible contamination from dermal contact and inhalation and ATSDR’s response.
In April 2008, a group of former El Toro Marines and dependents asked the Agency for Toxic Substances Disease Registry (ATSDR) to evaluate their exposure to trichloroethylene (TCE) and other contaminants found in the soil and groundwater at Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, California.
In 1985, the Orange County Water District found trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE) in shallow irrigation wells down gradient of the base.
The authors believe that warmer weather causes increases in the amount of ‘mast’, plant seeds from oak and beech trees, that forms the voles’ staple diet.
(BRUSSELS) -
An epidemic of the viral disease nephropathia epidemica (NE) has been linked to increases in the vole population caused by hotter summers, milder winters and increased seedcrop production by broadleaf trees.
Research published in BioMed Central’s open access International Journal of Health Geographics links outbreaks of this rodent-borne disease to known effects of global warming.
Dr Jan Clement from the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Belgium’s Rega Institute (University of Leuven) worked with a team of medical researchers and bioscience-engineers to investigate outbreaks of NE in Belgium.
As a world society, we will never advance beyond armed conflict if we shield the population from the real image of war- and that is death.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
Some pretty radical video clips have been posted on YouTube since the company began posting videos online a few years ago.
In spite of some of those spicy videos that have made the cut, we have always known that the organization had standards, and I certainly don't object to that. But I do take exception to their removing one of my Iraq War reports last summer that showed a dead terrorist. I think YouTube needs a serious reality check.
YouTube bans pornographic or sexually explicit video showing frontal nudity of women. It is OK to show topless men. The site is known for plenty of bare behinds; apparently that part is OK.
