Clatskanie-Area Woman Dies in Crash on Highway 30 West of Rainier (PHOTOS)

Highway 30 was closed about 3 1/2 hours as traffic was re-routed onto area roadways.

(RANIER, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Ranier, Oregon 1-9-09 Oregon State troopers say a Clatskanie-area woman died Friday evening when her car crashed into a sport utility vehicle on Highway 52 west of Rainier.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Paul Evans on a combat deployment in Iraq Paul Evans has drafted an open letter to President-elect Barack Obama referencing a number of points about the future of the U.S. military.

Evans, who works for the Oregon Governor's Office, is also a field grade officer in the Oregon National Guard.

A former Oregon Political candidate, Evans has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Group Asks Obama to Renew U.S. Crime-Fighting Efforts

Police funding has dwindled during the years of the Bush Administration; the group that brought us "McGruff the Crime Dog" wants Barack Obama to renew crime fighting efforts.

(ARLINGTON, Va.) - McGruff the Crime Dog The economic downturn, home foreclosures, and major cuts to law enforcement and crime prevention budgets have led President and CEO Alfonso Lenhardt of the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) to call upon President-elect Barack Obama to commit to a national agenda to renew crime prevention resources and support local law enforcement across the country.

“Waves of local crime are breaking out in communities all across the country. It is imperative that our new president enact a strategy to stem the rising tide of crime,” said Lenhardt. “Many of us have become complacent with constant reports of a record 30-year decline in crime rates.”

Security Council Overwhelmingly Calls for Immediate Gaza Ceasefire

(NEW YORK) - Security Council Adopts Ceasefire Agreement Concerning Gaza The United Nations Security Council tonight overwhelmingly called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza leading to a full Israeli withdrawal, the unimpeded provision throughout Gaza of food, fuel and medical treatment, and intensified international arrangements to prevent arms and ammunition smuggling.

Fourteen of the Council’s 15 members voted in favour, with only the United States abstaining.

Coast Guard helicopter rescue crews are currently conducting overflights of flood affected areas in Oregon and Washington to assess damage and look for stranded people.

(ASTORIA, Ore.) - Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk flood overview The United States Coast Guard has been flying over some of the northwest's most devastated flood areas, and they shared this video with us; scenes that show very clearly how significant the emergency evacuation zones.

This footage from a Coast Guard HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew at Air Station Astoria, Oregon, was being conducted in flood affected areas in order to assess damage and look for stranded citizens.

Cowlitz County Flood Update

Castle Rock High School will be closed on Friday, January 9th 2009.

(LONGVIEW, Wash.) - Cowlitz flood Officials say one home was damaged on Burcham Street in Kelso from a landslide today as floodwaters continue to create problems.

Pedestrians are being warned to avoid the Burcham Street slide area and to not go beyond the barricades. The 400 block of Burcham and the 1000 block of N 5th were evacuated.

All evacuees are being referred to the New Life Fellowship Church, 2441 42nd, Longview.

Final Group of 304th Reservists Return Home from 2008 Deployments

During the deployment, members of the 304th took part in 130 'saves' where without immediate intervention, a person would lose their life, a limb or eyesight.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Aviation operations in Afghanistan United States Air Force Reservists from the 304th Rescue Squadron will soon return home from a deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

The group of approximately twelve reservist will be landing at the Portland Air National Guard base in a C-17 aircraft along with their equipment Friday night.

The 304th Rescue Squadron is a Personnel Recovery Ground Force which provides rescue and recovery operations during both peacetime and wartime, as well as humanitarian missions around the world.

Police Arrest California Man for Luring 13-year-old to Los Angeles

The 13-year-old eighth grader was taken into protective custody as she was ready to board the plane.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Man handcuffed In December, Detectives from the Interagency Child Exploitation Team known as INTERCEPT, say they received information that a young girl was planning on meeting a man in California after talking with him online.

Prior to the girl leaving, detectives had the man arrested at the Ontario Airport in California and the young girl was detained at the Portland Airport.

Sgt. Vance Stimler with the Washington County Sheriff's Office, says that on December 30th 2008, members from INTERCEPT with the assistance of the Port of Portland Police, took a 13-year-old Washington County girl into Protective custody while she was waiting to board a plane for Ontario, California.
