Problems Rising in Clatskanie (PHOTOS)

Those needing sand bags can get them at the City Shops on Clatskanie Highway 47.

(CLATSKANIE, Oregon) - Salem-News.com Clatskanie officials have closed the Clatskanie School District. Due to flooding the Swedetown Village Manufactured Home Park has been evacuated, the area where the Northwood In and Carla's Closet have been flooded.

Swedetown Road at Olsen Road are under water and residents are urged to avoid this area as the road is closed.

Red Cross officials have set up a shelter that is currently open to those who have been affected by the floods.

Victim in Critical Injury Vehicle/Pedestrian Crash Identified (UPDATED)

Police say it happened at Highway 99E near Vineyard Road.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Auto ped crash in Oregon 1-8-09 Police say a female pedestrian was critically injured Wednesday evening when struck by a car while attempting to cross Highway 99E near Vineyard Road last night at 7:33 PM.

Oregon State Police is working with Oregon Health Sciences University to positively identify the critically injured woman.

Oregon State Police Recruit Trooper Tracy Clark says a 1993 Plymouth Sundance two-door driven by 36-year old Nathalia P. Mabbott of Milwaukie, was northbound on Highway 99E near Vineyard Road when it struck a pedestrian pushing a shopping cart filled with wood and personal items from the west to the east side of the highway.

Militants in Lebanon Blaze Rockets Into Israel

The attacks come a day after Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah delivered a fiery speech in Beirut in which he warned Israel not to attack Lebanon.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com As many sources predicted, Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza broadened Thursday as at least three rockets were fired into the north of Israel from Lebanon. It isn't clear who was behind the attacks.

David Hartwell, IHS Jane’s Middle East Analyst commented, “The rockets, said by media reports to be Katyusha variants, landed in the vicinity of Nahariyya, an Israeli town eight km from the border with Lebanon. Israeli forces in the area, which have been on high alert since the start of military operations in Gaza, returned mortar fire in response to the attack, which caused only minor casualties.”

Security sources in Lebanon told reporters that the rockets probably were not fired under instructions from the militant group Hezbollah. The group has neither confirmed or denied responsibility for the attacks.

I was a Medical School Professor of Physiology and Pharmacology when it became possible for me to also become a student for my Dr. of Osteopathy degree.

I had taught in M.D. schools for 16 years and I was a Professor in the D.O. school for 7 years. The last three I was a full time Professor while I was a full time medical student. That may explain why I am a little crazy!

Coast Guard Responds to Pacific Northwest Flooding

Over 25 Emergency Operations Centers throughout the state of Wash. are currently open; responding to and monitoring flooding, road conditions, and other storm-related events.

(ASTORIA, Ore. ) - MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter The United States Coast Guard in conjunction with other federal, state and local agencies is continuing its response to the Pacific Northwest flooding.

Earlier today, Coast Guard Air Station Astoria performed it's first rescue of the flood response when an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter rescue crew hoisted two stranded people in Morton, Wash.

The rescue crew worked in conjunction with the Lewis County Sheriff's Department to locate the stranded citizens.

Evacuations Ordered in Cowlitz County‏

Due to the rain and flooding, churches, clubs, schools, and community groups are encouraged to cancel evening activities.

(KELSO, Wash.) - Evacuation order Officials in Cowlitz County say the area is continuing to experience floods and slides. The county has declared an emergency as conditions are expected to worsen. (see: Cowlitz County Declares Emergency‏)

Notice of evacuation has been given to residents in the south portion of Kelso, both east and west of Interstate 5, Toutle area near county roads Sightly, Canal and Moore, and in the city of Woodland a Mobile home park and a R.V park at 2009 Lewis River Road.

People are currently providing sand bag protection at the Brook Hollow Mobile Home park located on East Allen Street.

Fallen Tree Grinds Commercial Traffic to a Halt on Highway 26 (PHOTOS)

Problems with the trucks are resolved but state police urge drivers in the area to use extreme caution.

(GOVERNMENT CAMP) - Stalled trucks and fallen tree Wednesday was a tough morning for truck drivers on Highway 26 east of Government Camp near the Highway 216 junction.


Oregon State Police Senior Trooper Mike Bates says the trucks came to a halt after a tree fell, spanning the road.


Although it took a while, he says the trucks have been removed from the area. Oregon's Department of Transportation and OSP encourages motorists who are planning a trip on state highways during and after such heavy rains to visit TripCheck.com to check their route before leaving.

Cowlitz County Declares Emergency

Those areas with livestock, that are prone to flooding, need to consider moving their animals now rather than wait.

(KELSO, Wash.) - Cowlitz County logo Cowlitz County has declared an emergency as a result of the heavy rain and flooding. The National Weather Service forecast for flooding has increased from minor to major severity as the Cowlitz River continues to rise.
