Iraqi journalist hurls shoes at President Bush during his final visit to Baghdad.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
An Iraqi journalist in Baghdad drew worldwide attention today when he threw both of his shoes at President George W. Bush during his farewell visit to this nation of conflicting emotions. They missed the President, but not by much.
The man could be heard yelling in Arabic: "This is a farewell ... you dog!" as he was dragged out of the room kicking and screaming.
In this part of the world, just showing the bottom of your shoe or foot is a serious insult as it compares the person being insulted to the lowest thing on earth. Hurling shoes at someone is considered an even bigger insult among Muslims.

(WOODBURN, Ore.) -
Oregon's law enforcement community suffered a serious loss Friday when an explosion ripped through a bank in the city of Woodburn, killing two experienced police officers and seriously injuring a third.
Woodburn Police Department Captain Tom Tennant, age 51, died as a result of the explosion. He was a 28-year veteran of Woodburn Police Department was hired on September 08, 1980 as a Woodburn Police Officer.
Tom Tennant was promoted to the rank of Captain on November 1st 2004. Captain Tennant served as the Administrative Captain, overseeing both the Investigation and Records Divisions. Captain Tennant has served as a Police Officer, Patrol Sergeant, and Detective Sergeant. Captain Tennant is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Despite frosty weather projections, the Portland General Electric Festival of Lights Holiday Parade in downtown Salem begins tonight, Saturday, December 13, at 6:30 PM.
With more than 60 entries including bands, illuminated floats, and a special appearance by the man in red himself, SANTA, the PGE Festival of Lights Holiday Parade is a Oregonian holiday season tradition.
The parade starts at 6:30 PM in front of the Capitol Building on Court Street at Waverly, heads west on Court, north on Liberty, west on Chemeketa, south on Commercial, and then heads home, east on State Street. The parade’s estimated finish time is approximately 8:00 – 8:30 PM.

Life-Threatening Blizzard Targets Mid-West States

Cold is following the storm in the Northeast.
(STATE COLLEGE, Pa.) -
A potent storm sliding from the northern Rockies to the northern Plains will bring dangerous blizzard conditions from Montana to the Dakotas, AccuWeather.com reports.
Up to a foot of snow will fall in central and eastern Montana and North Dakota into Sunday morning.
While the heavy snow falls, winds will whip greater than 40 mph across the area, blowing snow around. The visibility will be reduced to near zero as a result for extended periods of time.

Oregon State Police Mourn Death of Senior Trooper Bill Hakim

Senior Trooper Hakim is the 28th Oregon State Police troopers to lose his life in the line of duty.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
Oregon State Police Senior Trooper William ("Bill") Hakim, died from duty-related explosion injuries received while performing his duties as a Hazardous Devices Technician with the Oregon State Police on December 12, 2008 at age 51.
Senior Trooper Hakim was assisting Woodburn Police Department at an area bank inspecting a suspicious device when it detonated, killing Senior Trooper Hakim and Woodburn Police Captain Tom Tennant. Woodburn Police Chief Scott Russell was critically injured in the explosion.
Senior Trooper Hakim was hired with the Oregon State Police on July 1, 1997 and stationed at the Klamath Falls Area Command office in the Patrol Services Division. On March 1st 1999 he transferred to the Salem Area Command office as a detective in the Arson and Explosives Section.

One officer was killed and the Chief of Police critically injured Friday afternoon when an explosive device detonated at a Woodburn area bank.
The condition of an Oregon State Police bomb technician injured in the explosion has not been updated. The names of the deceased officer and the State Police bomb technician will be released Saturday.
Chief Scott Russell has been with Woodburn Police Department for 20 years. He is being treated at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland.

Crash Closes Northbound I-5 in Portland

The freeway is expected to reopen around 1:00 AM Saturday.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Drivers that are headed north on Interstate-5 need to be prepared for a delay as Oregon Department of Transportation officials report that a crash has closed all lanes of northbound I-5 at Macadam.
They say traffic is being routed off the interstate at Macadam, and there is currently little or no traffic backup.
The northbound interstate are expected to remain closed until police complete an investigation. The current estimate is to reopen northbound I-5 about 1:00 AM Saturday morning.
