Governor and Legislature Should Solve Revenue Shortfalls With Revenue Solutions
Salem-News.com
Statement by OCPP Executive Director Charles Sheketoff on the December Oregon Economic and Revenue Forecast.
(SILVERTON, Ore.) -
Today's revenue forecast shows that Oregon is in a revenue crisis, not a spending crisis. The Governor and legislators should address it with revenue solutions.
The forecast found that Oregon has $261 million less in the current biennium than the 2007 legislature thought would be available to spend. In the upcoming 2009-11 biennium, there will be $1 billion less than the 2007 legislature thought would be available.
Oregon is now $142 million in the red for this budget period, and based on data from the Budget and Management Division, next biennium Oregon will be short $1.1 billion in meeting the essential budget level.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
As a geezer, well into geezerhood, I read AARP News and Senior & Boomer News to see how I am fairing; AARP says we geezers are being screwed. Is there any other real news?
Well yes, Senior & Boomer News prints an article by Jack Pflug whom I read occasionally. He writes that Oregonians are paying the price for untreated drug & alcohol abuse which costs Oregonians $5.9 billion a year. One of his subjects is the Drug Free Workplace Initiative. Auto Industry Should Drop Emissions Litigation in Exchange for Bailout
Salem-News.com
Industry sites urge that any new funds be “Precisely Targeted” to Hybrids, clean diesels and other high MPG vehicles.
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -
If Washington is going to give yet another loan-guarantee bailout to Detroit automakers, the price tag for doing so should include requiring the car manufacturers to end their four-year-long legal assault against global warming laws in California and three other states (Vermont, Rhode Island and New Mexico), according to 40MPG.org and TheCLEAN.org, which are projects of the Civil Society Institute.
The groups also called on Congress and the Bush Administration to narrowly target any additional loan guarantees for U.S. car makers to the development and delivery of hybrids, clean diesels and other highly fuel-efficient vehicles. Concerned Americans are being urged to go to http://www.40mpg.org/bailout to send an email urging that the bailout restrictions be supported by their members of Congress and the transition team of President-Elect Barack Obama.
