Search Continues for Missing Brothers on Willamette River
Salem-News.com
Two anglers remain missing from Riverview Park in Independence.
(INDEPENDENCE, Ore.) -
20-year old Alvin Troub and his brother, 8-year old Michael Runyon, have been missing since Sunday, when they were dropped off by family members at Riverview Park in Independence to go fishing. When family members returned to the park two hours later at 4:00 PM the two could not be found.
Searchers on Monday say they found very few clues into the disappearance of the young fishermen. However, water scent dogs did "alert" in two places in the river. A dive team from Linn County Sheriff's Office dove in one of these areas but found nothing. They reported visibility in the river to be less than a foot, so searching was very difficult.
Today, Chief Vernon Wells says the work continues, in hope of locating the two missing anglers.

Politics of Religion Part Two
Salem-News.com
After every war, peace prevails, and I see no reason why it should not hold true in Iraq, as it has after WW-II, in Korea and Vietnam. The end of war is the beginning of peace, reason enough for America to leave Iraq now.
(PASO ROBLES, Calif.) -
September 11, 2001 played a significant part in what followed, the effect of which can be seen in Iraq that, if it didn't deserve to be invaded by America, nevertheless suited President Bush’s larger purpose. The result has been to widen the religious divide leading to wholesale death and dreadful destruction and it is a fallacy to believe that America and the world are safer because the Bush Administration may have seen 9/11 as an opportunity to pursue a more personal and religious agenda.
As a War President, Geo. W. Bush uses his Commander-in-Chief status to exercise authority over a populace who resents the threat it poses to its democratic values. The object, it appears, is to spread the Gospel of Evangelical Christianity even if it means sacrificing American wealth in dead, wounded and hundreds of billions of dollars to achieve his, and the radical-right’s agenda.

Boy Crushed by Truck Continues to Inspire Disabled Veterans (VIDEO)

"Big Evan" is a 'Boy Wonder' whose good deeds would compete with Superman any day.
(MARION, Ill.) -
Few stories give my heart strings the workout that this one does. A 4-year boy who spends his extra time cheering up wounded and disabled vets with his grandmother in Illinois, narrowly survived being crushed by a pick-up truck. The story involves gritted teeth, forgiveness, perseverance, recovery, and a really unforgettable airplane ride.
On October 8th 2008, Susan Tackitt's youngest grandson was run over by a 3/4 ton pickup. Both wheels went over this tiny child who has been a VA Volunteer for more than half of his life. When "Big Evan" was hit by the truck, he was seriously injured, according to Tackitt.
"His femor and pelvis were broken, he had lacerations on his liver and spline and is in a full body cast," Tackitt said, adding that, "For four days he wouldn't eat."

Politics of Religion Part Three
Kenneth G. Ramey Salem-News.com
Bush uses the Evangelistic example to espouse his infallibility and imply that he alone knows what is best for America, the world, and nations that do not embrace his sense of what "Civilization" ought to be.
(PASO ROBLES, Ca.) -
As costs mount, Bush’s assurance that victory is just around an ever receding corner ring hollow, and with his claim that more sacrifice is necessary, and will turn the trick, his credibility has become suspect. As in Vietnam, Iraqis have become bystanders and victims of a war that whirls around them.
World opinion makes it appear America would save, rather than lose, face if it were to withdraw. The hawks counter that appeasement of any sort would be “quitting,” and say people who disagree are soft on Communism and Fascism; propaganda pure and simple. S. I. Hayakawa was a semanticist, a student of how people react to propaganda, words rather than their meaning, and has helped others understand it power.

Multnomah Sheriff Bans Internet for Employees
Salem-News.com
Some employees will still be able to use the Internet.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
There's a new sheriff in town, and he is putting the kibosh on Internet usage for employees of the busy Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. The move will limit employees on keeping up on things like the day's news, but the Sheriff believes banning the Internet will be more in the public's better interest.
Following a 5 month consideration of the issue of internet use by MCSO employees, Sheriff Bob Skipper announced a change in the authorization required for employees to access the internet.
He says the policy 'upgrade' was driven by a 2007 investigation of three MCSO employees who had logged onto inappropriate internet sites during duty hours. Sheriff Skipper, who took office on July 17th, replacing long time Sheriff Bernie Giusto, was apprised of the on-going investigations and ordered an internal audit to evaluate internet use.
