Government Beats
The `Free Market`
With Simple Tariff

Foundation of power overwhelms world of dollars.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Salem-News.com “Free trade” has never been truly “free”. Even its most vocal and varied corporate-interest propagators have always bowed to the potency of government.

They well know they have no choice so long as sovereignty trumps globalization. Those worldly potent-power representatives invited to Washington this week by a “retiring” President Bush know the true nature of the game.

Many have famously (OR notoriously) played the tariff-card whenever “national interest” could somehow conceivably be cited. Bush’s impassioned pleading in defense of ostensibly “free trade” rings false and even foolish in the ongoing rush into globalization now underway worldwide. But then, why is that a surprise ? What else has his regime been providing, pandering, and proving so potently and promiscuously for its full eight years?

Santa Ana Winds Drive California Wildfires Toward Celebrity Homes (VIDEO)

Santa Ana Winds Fuel Raging California Wildfire Threaten Celebrity Homes and Westmont College

(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) - Santa Ana winds that developed on Thursday will continue into Sunday in Southern California. They have fueled a raging wildfire that has destroyed at least 100 homes in a celebrity enclave near Montecito, according to AccuWeather.com.

The winds began on Thursday as high pressure built over the Intermountain West. By Thursday night, the winds known locally as "sundowners" were gusting to as high as 70 mph through the canyons and passes of Southern California.

The winds fed the "Tea Fire" that broke out Thursday evening in the foothills of Montecito, just southeast of Santa Barbara. Associated Press and Fox News Channel report that by this morning, the fast-moving blaze has destroyed as many as 100 luxury homes and parts of a college campus.

Businessmen are Bad for Capitalism, Says Libertarian Party

Party believes CEOs and government assistance stand in the way of economic turnaround.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - "CEOs and government 'altruism' are standing in the way of effective economic turnaround," says Libertarian Party spokesperson Andrew Davis.

"Businessmen are bad for capitalism when they use the government as life support for failing ventures," explains Davis. "Instead of letting other companies absorb these failing businesses, CEOs and government bailouts have distorted the natural forces of capitalism and prevented the necessary—and effective—economic turnaround that only comes through an unfettered free market. These bailouts do nothing but prolong the inevitable collapse of companies suffering from extreme mismanagement and poor investments."

"The Libertarian Party is adamantly opposed to any sort of bailout of American corporations who, through their own mismanagement, find themselves at the brink of failure," says Davis.

Woman in China Faces Imminent Forced Abortion (VIDEO)

China's treatment of Muslim minority citizens is often shocking.

(HONG KONG) - China`s flag Arzigul Tursun, six months pregnant with her third child, is under guard in a hospital in China's northwestern Xinjiang region, scheduled to undergo an abortion against her will because authorities say she is entitled to only two children.

As a member of the predominantly Muslim Uyghur minority, Tursun is legally permitted to more than the one child allowed most people in China. But when word of a third pregnancy reached local authorities, they coerced her into the hospital for an abortion, her husband told Radio Free Asia (RFA).

"Arzigul is being kept in bed number three," a nurse in the women's section at Gulja's Water Gate Hospital said in a telephone interview with RFA's Uyghur service.
