Mugabe Denies Passport for Political Rival
Tim King Salem-News.com
Robert Mugabe uses political muscle to deny his rival's chance to attend important talks regarding Zimbabwe.
(JOHANNESBURG, South Africa) -
The opposition leader of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai, has missed important scheduled talks in Swaziland over the crisis in his country. But as it turns out, Tsvangirai only missed the talks because his political rival, Robert Megabe, refused to grant his passport.
The talks were rescheduled and will now take place next week. Mugabe's attempt to block Tsvangirai has not missed the attention of other nations like Botswana, which called Zimbabwe's failure to issue the passport "totally unacceptable and an indication of bad faith."
This leaves the government of the Republic of Botswana expressing concern over developments in Zimbabwe which have stalled the process of operationalizing a Government in that country.

Combat Soldier Pointman: Fix Bayonets And Marching Fire
Dr. Phillip Leveque Salem-News.com
Phillip Leveque has spent his life as a Combat Infantryman, Physician Pharmacologist and Toxicologist.
(MOLALLA, Ore.) -
To my fellow Combat Infantry Dogfaces:
I volunteered for the Army in May 1944. I had just graduated from Oregon State College in Chemistry and I had been trained as a Toxicologist. I was the first one at Oregon State. I had been reading in the newspapers about the bloodbaths at Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, North Africa, Sicily, and Italy.
Almost all of my friends were in the service. I had been deferred to finish my chemistry training. I knew the Army could use a chemist/Toxicologist in case of chemical warfare. I was trained for that and then sent to the 89th Infantry Division to be a Chemical Warfare Non-Com. When I got there they had already selected him. My First Sergeant told me, “We’re putting you in the Intelligence Section”.

Salem-News.com
In a repeat of the Vietnam era, some of the most vocal advocates for ending the war are those who served in it.
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -
One hour before the final presidential debate of the 2008 campaign, fourteen members of Iraq Veterans Against the War marched in formation to Hofstra University to present questions for the candidates. IVAW had requested permission from debate moderator Bob Schieffer to ask their questions during the debate but got no response.
The contingent of veterans in dress uniforms and combat uniforms attempted to enter the building where the debate was to be held in order to ask their questions but were turned back by police.
The IVAW members at the front of the formation were immediately arrested, and others were pushed back into the crowd by police on horseback. Several members were injured, including former Army Sergeant Nick Morgan who suffered a broken cheekbone when he was trampled by police horses before being arrested.

The Evangelical See / FYI and ?
Kenneth G. Ramey Salem-News.com
The billions of dollars spent monthly to support the occupation of Iraq would go a long way toward solving America’s economic problem.
(PASO ROBLES, Calif.) -
McCain is being touted as the candidate with the most experience, and he in turn says Sarah Palin is fully qualified to be President of the U.S. because, as he says, she was a member of the Wasilla PTA, is a reformer, and “mavericky.”
John McCain’s campaign was mired in confusion before the fecund Voice of Rove’s managers took the reins that have guided his campaign since. Sarah Palin got a crash course in the art of Right-Wing rhetoric from the same team that moved both from apparent ineptitude to being downright offensive.
The “Voice,” not the candidates, decides Party rhetoric it hopes will fertilize the credulity of the Republican base; McCain and Palin do the dirty-work of spreading it around. Colin Powell endorsed Obama in part because he objects to the ”over the top” [shameful] tactics of his Party and its candidates, including accusations and innuendo unbecoming the Party of his recollection.
