Unity Through Diversity

Nobody likes to be bullied, but under the Bush Administration, “bully” is how the U.S. is perceived.
(PASO ROBLES, Calif.) -
“As Commandeer in Chief, would you commit U.S. troops to Israel’s defense if it was attacked?” or words to that effect, is a question from the fertile and gestational mind of McCain’s campaign advisors to be used by him to bait Barack Obama.
John McCain’s reply was never in doubt; the mere mention of the prospect of war is enough to whet his warrior-appetite, and his cup runneth-over as he gleefully told a congenial crowd, “My friends, we have got them [the Obama Campaign] just where we want them,” counting on the martial-attitude of his base to confirm him in what sober minds would consider enough of a bad thing.

PSA Targets Sarah Palin`s Anti-Abortion Position
Tim King Salem-News.com
In some red states, the fight has progressed to the point that rape victims left pregnant by their attackers are forced to carry the babies to full term, only to deal with the rapists later seeking parental rights.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
Survivors of sex abuse are rallying against the politics of the GOP's vice-presidential pick. Sarah Palin's staunch anti-abortion views actually have a backfire effect for rape victims. The woman featured in a TV PSA that is currently running was raped, and must carry the child to full term under Palin's plan.
Sexual abuse survivors like Coral Theill, formerly of Polk County, Oregon, take strong exception to Palin's position. Theill's story involved the Polk County, Oregon justice system backing the sex abuser who was friends with judges, police and others in the local area.

Lively Presidential Debate No Revival for McCain Campaign (VIDEOS)
Tim King Salem-News.com
John McCain hoped to get a boost, but debate watchers say Obama was the winner.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
Tonight's Presidential Debate was a little more aggressive, a bit more poignant, even angry and pathetic at times, but it failed to bring about a much needed revival for Senator John McCain as polls continue to show support shifting toward Senator Barack Obama.
McCain repeatedly stated that a vote for Senator Barack Obama would lead to increased taxes, but Obama's plan as he has described it, would cut taxes for 95 percent of Americans, while raising the burden for a small part of the nation's richest citizens. Obama says McCain's plan would leave the average American behind, giving tax breaks to oil and gas companies.

Black on White Crime?
Op-Ed by Tim King Salem-News.com
It was only 50 years ago that whites in the south murdered and attacked African Americans almost routinely, without repercussion from police.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
I can't believe there is a discussion on this subject, in fact I think the whole 'black on white' crime idea is a non-subject. What kind of rocket scientist does it take to simply look at the plight of the African/American? They were slaves in some cases, just four generations ago. How could any race or group of human beings recover from that in less than 140 years?
Take the case of Emmett Till, a small 14-year old youth from Chicago who in 1955, went to Mississippi to visit family. He was accused of disrespecting a white woman, and he was brutally murdered by a band of white adults over it.

A Republican Parable
Kenneth G. Ramey Salem-News.com
Sarah Palin is a neophyte of the Far Right, eager to fight witches to prepare for becoming a Pentecostal-Pope one day, subject to the will of an Evangelical Holy See.
(PASO ROBLES, Calif.) -
Sarah Palin has been on the political stump now all of seven weeks, arriving as a gift from heaven with few of the attributes of a seasoned politician, but possessed of charms that, if you aren’t sure what they are, you’re still likely to believe she has ‘em.
I believe Palin was not John McCain‘s choice as a running-mate, but that of his keepers. The Republican Far Right (its Passive Voice), is composed of Evangelicals and followers dedicated to returning America to the past when religion was all powerful in keeping with its presumed Word of God.

Benny and Sid`s Your Public Service Announcements #16
Glen Bledsoe Salem-News.com
(Salem) -
The weeks running up to the election have been tense. Benny & Sid would like nothing better than to get out of town, go on vacation or just take a walk in the woods, but the most important election in recent history is taking place and they'd like you to know what they think about it. This past week they've taken the time to spruce up their studio so that it has a more professional look and feel. Now if Sid can just convince Benny to dress up in something different than a t-shirt ("But it feels comfortable!") they'll be a distinctly class act.

Pump Prices Plunge to Lowest Level in Seven Months
Gas prices continue their free fall, with the national average dropping a hefty 32 cents in the past week to $3.16 and Oregon's average plunging 15 cents to $3.34.
(PORTLAND, Ore.) -
Gas prices are dropping like a rock. The national average for regular unleaded plunges 32 cents this week to $3.16, while Oregon's average drops another 15 cents to $3.34. AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says the national average is at its lowest point since February 28th, while Oregon's is the lowest since the first week in March.
Dodds says crude oil is down significantly from the record high of $147 per barrel set July 11th, trading near $80 per barrel today.
"It's reasonable to expect further declines in pump prices. The last time oil was trading at $80 per barrel was in October of last year, and the national average for regular unleaded then was around $2.76 and Oregon's was about $2.86."
