Clackamas Deputies Seek to Arrest Domestic Violence Suspect

Investigators say the suspect may presently be frequenting the cities of Longview and Vancouver, Washington; employed as a house painter. They believe he could also be visiting the communities of Junction City, Eugene and Fern Ridge, Oregon.

Employment-Based Health Coverage Shrinks in Oregon and Nation

Oregon has also failed to make headway in providing health insurance coverage to children this decade.
(SILVERTON, Ore.) -
New data shows that even before the economy turned down, the share of Oregon workers receiving health coverage from their employers was in decline.
This decade, employer-sponsored health insurance coverage has fallen 7.5 percent among non-elderly Oregonians, according a study released today by the Washington, D.C.-based Economic Policy Institute (EPI). As of 2006-07, employers covered 61.4 percent of non-elderly Oregonians, down from 66.4 percent in 2000-01.

House Slides Down Hillside as Neighbors Rescue Occupant

There are two streets closed indefinitely in the area. SW Terwilliger Blvd from Capitol Highway to Chestnut Street SW and Burlingame Place at the scene of the slide. City officials are asking drivers to please avoid these areas.
(PORTLAND, Ore) -
Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to a report of a house sliding down the hill and the occupant was sliding down in front of the building.
Neighbors said that just after 5:30 AM, they saw the occupant "surfing" down the hill on a slab of concrete and quickly grabbed a ladder. Kim Kosmas with Portland Fire & Rescue says they reached with the ladder to the occupant and she grabbed the last rung of the ladder.
"The three neighbors then pulled the ladder and the occupant up the hill as the slab of concrete continued down the hillside."

Oregon Astronaut Don Pettit Will be Aboard Next Space Shuttle Mission

Don Petit was selected to join NASA in 1996.
(CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.) -
Astronaut Donald Pettit, who was born in Silverton, Oregon, will make his second journey into orbit on space shuttle Endeavour's mission to the International Space Station. Endeavour is targeted to launch from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida on November 14th, at 7:55 PM EST.
Pettit is one of seven astronauts who will fly on the shuttle mission designated STS-126. The shuttle will deliver equipment and supplies necessary to double the station crew size from three to six in May 2009.
During the 15-day flight, astronauts will service the station's two Solar Alpha Rotary Joints. The starboard joint has been in limited use since September 2007.

This story seems too “wrong” to be true. Not that those are terribly uncommon, but this one, about a well-meaning businessman, may shake the core of confidence in our city leaders. And it’s all over garbage, literally.
Most of us would never believe that a simple task such as cleaning out your basement could cause a business to be fined, sued, or disallowed from servicing customers in our fair city. Unfortunately, that is the case for one such business: 1-800 Got Junk?.
