Tribes and Feds Create Unprecedented Agreements Over Columbia River Basin Fish

The agreements are the result of two years of extensive negotiations between Indian tribes and the federal agencies.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Native American fishing at Columbia River Basin Four Columbia River Basin tribes and three federal agencies today announced the start of a public comment period for an unprecedented set of proposed agreements and comprehensive actions designed to improve habitat and strengthen fish stocks in the Columbia River Basin over the next 10 years.

The participants also believe these proposed agreements will fundamentally improve the working relationships between these tribes and the federal government, focusing on common goals and ending decades of litigation.

Wyden, Clinton, Dodd, Lieberman Seek Repeal of Federal Control Over LNG Terminal Siting

Senators Seek to Restore State Control Over Terminal Placement.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Columbia River Estuary Oregon's Ron Wyden was among senators who introduced legislation today to repeal portions of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which gave that authority to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Such decisions had historically been decided by state siting agencies.

"The end result of the Bush-Cheney energy bill is a Federal process, dominated by corporate energy interests, in which Oregonians have no due process and no assurance that their concerns will be heard, much less addressed," said Wyden.

Legendary, Well Loved Portland Weatherman Jim Bosley Dies at 73

Among many other things, Jim Bosley will always be remembered for his trademark weather forecast detail called "Rate the Day."

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - Jim Bosley KATU Television in Portland reports that meteorologist and AM Northwest host Jim Bosley has died. He was 73. KATU says they were informed Monday morning by his wife, Karen, that Bosley died Sunday evening from congestive heart failure.

With the nickname "The Boz," Jim was a longtime icon at KATU, Portland's ABC station, where he anchored the weather department for over 30 years. He began his career with KATU in 1962.

Man`s Remains Discovered Near Cannon Beach

Police say the death investigation is underway at Ocean Shore south of Cannon Beach.

(CANNON BEACH, Ore.) - Death Investigation Oregon State Police are working with the Clatsop County Medical Examiner in an attempt to positively identify the remains of an adult male found Sunday afternoon washed up on the beach about 2 1/2 miles south of Cannon Beach.

Police say Sunday at approximately 4:45 PM, a person walking on the beach found the partial remains of an adult male south of Cannon Beach.

Arsonist(s) Sought in Capitol Mall Fires

Approximately 50 people were reportedly in the Capitol Mall area around the time the fires were reported.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Capitol Mall fire An Oregon State Police arson investigator has confirmed Sunday afternoon's fire that destroyed a portable restroom and damaged an underground parking stair access structure on the north end of the Capitol Mall grounds near the Labor & Industries Building was intentionally set.

A second fire scene was also identified at a second portable restroom on the mall grounds about one-tenth of a mile south of the first scene.
